Sea and watercolour practice

I walked to the sea this morning before getting food shopping in on the way home. I was in quite a bit of pain with the knees today, can’t pinpoint a particular reason but not an enjoyable walk today. Some nice sea pictures though, it was  quite misty out at sea and there was some damp in the air.

They appear to be sepia, but they are as taken, not changed.
This afternoon I have rest d a lot but did get the watercolours out and decided to have a go at a tonal picture working from a photograph I took in America. I will post the stages in order.

Sort of getting the idea!
Strictly in Blackpool tonight so it should be a great show.

  1. I like the sea pics with the fisherman in. It give it a nice focal point. They all look good though and as you say almost sepia. Quite a nice combination of reasonable weather and light plus a good bit of rough water.
The tonal picture is amazing. I really do like this technique a lot. It’s nice to see the three stages as well as it gives an idea of how it’s done. I’ve really got to have one of those 😊
    Enjoy Blackpool.

  2. The morning was quite nice weather, it clouded over and was dull and occasionally wet for the latter part of the day. The sea looked good, always different.
I enjoyed trying the tonal painting, will practice some more.

  3. Don’t think you need practice. I’d say you were pretty good at it already!
