Tina and I set off about 10 am calling first at the auction house. We managed to get the jardiniere, the planter and the screen into the car to take with up to Hornsea. We had also put a few bags of stuff in to drop off as well. It was a cold day and we had a wet journey across and a nice puddle had appeared on the drive.
Builders were in and work was being done in the bathroom and the utility room. A fencing man met us there as at the moment the garden has panels missing and is not secure.
The table that Tina had collected from Mirfield will look good in her office.
Going across to the recycling bin and partially hidden by another shrub I made a fabulous discovery, a mahonia about to come into flower!
The carpet fitters arrived and were a long time and did a great job in the two bedrooms. The guest bedroom.
And mine, they both look a lot different now.
Now for the auction pieces, firstly the rather swish planter.
The back of the screen is quite plain.
But the main side and the detail are lovely. Here it is on the new carpet successfully masking the sink.
Last, but not least, the late 19th Century jardiniere, I need to clean it, but I really love it!
I cleaned some of the kitchen cupboards and Tina used their carpet cleaner to try and remove some of the stains from her office carpet.
We had a lovely lunch at a newly opened tea shop and had a good journey home. We stopped at the mere as the sky had been lovely. I took just this one photo and I think it is one of the best shots I have taken. didn't bother with several as I usually do.
We shopped at Lidl on the way home having had a pretty successful day I think. Also, the first stuff is going to be moved out on Thursday so it is about to become real!
Well worth a trip out in the wet! I know how much you love mahonia, so can imagine how pleased you were when you discovered it :-) The new carpets make quite a difference to the rooms, as does that fantastic little screen in front of the sink. It’s gorgeous and a perfect size for what you needed. In fact all the bits you’ve bought are great. The jardiniere is really colourful and will look great with the right plant on it. I like the wooden one too, and although they are totally different, they somehow seem to go together. Very eclectic.
ReplyDeleteThe photo you took of the mere is outstanding. I had a wow moment as I scrolled down to it. Before I even read your comment I’d already decided it is one of best I’ve seen. Think that’s definitely crying out to be printed and framed and placed on your 'Scarborough memories' wall!
Thursday isn’t long away. It’s getting more exciting by the day!
Glad you like the mere photo, I had already decided this one is a framer.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to have bought things and be pleased with them, doesn't always turn out that way, I am really pleased with there, and looked again at the chairs when we collected these items and I think I will be delighted with them too.
Yes, all about to happen very soon now.
Pleased to see this post again, I loved that mere photo.
