This morning Tina and I headed off to York just after 8.30 am. She dropped me off at Clifton Moor shopping centre and that is where we would meet up after her training and meeting. I found the bus stop I had to wait at to get the bus into the city. It was about half an hours journey through an estate. I don't know York very well and I got off the bus sooner than I should have, so had a bit of a walk into the centre. When I came to the bridge at the bottom of Micklegate I walked a little away along the river path, so took this picture looking back at the bridge.
These two ducks looked so tiny as they came through the bridge.
As I walked into the town I realised that it was my ankle and not my knee that were going to give me problems today, as it was already really beginning to hurt. I passed the parish church of All Saints Pavement York and it was open so I went in. A lovely little church.
A close up of the window.
I had a wander in The Shambles, but by then I was really struggling, but loved this fabulous street.
I bought a couple of cards to write and sat in Kings Square to write them and rest. A lady sat next to me trying very hard to get me to give her some money, as I sat there I saw her try the same on anybody that would listen. The street entertainer said that she is around and trying it every day. You will be pleased to know that I didn't cave in! There was a quaint building in the square and to the left of the picture is the street entertainer who was a very good singer.
I had several cafe stops, caught the bus back to the shopping centre and still had about three hours before I met up with Tina. I had taken the second Mikey Walsh book with me and found a bench and made a good start on that and went into Wilko's where I managed to buy a light weight steamer saucepan, and as luck would have it they had a cafe!
Met up with Tina who had had a good day, we had a bit to eat and then drove home, the traffic was very bad out of York.
I am now sitting here with my foot in a bowl of iced water. I think I overdid things yesterday and my ankle has rebelled, I will lay off too much walking tomorrow.
Well at least you had a day out. Better than sitting in at home, although sitting might have been better on the ankle. Then again you don't get the same selection of cakes and hot chocolate at home!
ReplyDeleteI like your church pictures, particularly the window. I like to take photos inside and out of churches myself. They are a great subject matter. Must get out and take some pictures myself, as I've not for ages.
Well done for not being talked out of money! You're way too soft, and give in way too easily usually :-)
Take it easy on the ankle for a while.
It was nice to be out but couldn't do as much as I'd have liked. Won't be doing much walking tomorrow. I really like looking at churches, generally very peaceful.
ReplyDeleteOh bless you hope the ankle /knee has improved since writing this- thank you for my lovely card it cheered me up no end xx can't believe you didn't cave in I was expecting you to write that you had bought her some lunch and found out where the local hostel was 😂 York is a lovely place there is a nice handmade fudge shop down there and you used to be able to watch them make it too
ReplyDeleteThere was something irritating and not honest about her! Glad you liked the card. xxx
