The fret came over the town and has not completely lifted all day. Getting quite thick again now. I had a day in, had the back door open all day so Blue spent most of her time outside, chasing insects or play fighting with Charlie. He stayed around most of the day while I was gardening and the doing a bit of cooking. To say the back garden had got out of hand was an understatement. I cleared so much stuff but haven't actually hoed the beds or done any of the finer clearing. This area above the wall outside the back door.
And the area near the next garden which gets very overrun with ivy and brambles.
I had a fair amount of stuff to get through to the garden waste bin out front, think I filled the pink trolley three times.
One area needing more attention, but clearer.
And the area near the next house.
In the middle of the day when I was going out to the bin the mist was still hanging around the street.
My oldest bonsai tree appears to have died which is a shame. I was looking at it today thinking the end of one of the branches looked odd and then realised it was a moth!

I watched a bit of Paralympics and saw a couple of gold medals won by Team GB and then decided that I would make a start on pruning the buddleia back. Tina had said we should do it before they stop emptying the garden bin for the winter months. It was all over the lawn and very large again despite brutal pruning in the spring!
Lots more clearing to be done!
Took quite a while cutting it all down to manageable lengths, think I filled another three pink trolleys and the garden bin is now full to the brim!
While I was outside a man was up the flagpole above the tall cricket stand. Rather him than me!
I had the cats for company most of the day, well, two of them anyway. Charlie does seem to be keeping an eye on Blue now she is going out, but they do end up fighting some of the time!
I did some cooking this afternoon, the cheese scones turned out quite well.
I also made a cake, I wanted to use some of the mixed fruit I had left from the Christmas cakes. I cooked it in the top over and it rose so high the it got stuck under the grill! I had to coax it out and cut off the top so that the rest of it would cook! No picture, but it tastes okay! More sport tonight.

  1. A very full day for you. That garden looks like it was really hard work. That's what I don't like about gardening. You do all that work to get it looking lovely, then it all grows and you have to start again! I like to see it looking nice, but wouldn't want to do it myself. Luckily I don't have anything to do with the garden here. It's a shame you've lost the bonsai, I know how much effort you've put into keeping them going over the years. You've still got a few more more though.
Cakes and scones, I bet they won't last very long!
Like the pic of the mist rolling up the street,

  2. I have not had a lot of inclination to do the garden, but am pleased that I got off my backside and make a start. I may feel the desire to get out and do a bit more now! The mist got worse again, I think it may be rain tomorrow.

  3. You have done very well with the garden, looks good. Shame about your bonsia, something to put on your Christmas list ( replacement). The scones look tasty, nearly as good as mine ( joke) shame about the cake but I'm sure it lovely. X
