Weeding and swinging!

Didn’t go out at all today until this evening when the three of us went and had take away fish and chips by the sea. We haven’t been able to get along the path to the garden rubbish bin without fighting the undergrowth for some time. So did some cutting back and also moved the tamarix tree which hasn’t been happy there and is usually fighting with some other plant of getting knocked about by us on the way to the bin! I dug an area in the main bed and then carried on weeding it, even planted some bulbs! No before picture and the tree has a couple of stakes supporting it, hopefully it will settle in and still blossom next year.
I went out for another hour or so after lunch and continued round the other end of that bed. Thought I would take my book out into the garden then and sit on the swing seat for a while. We hadn’t put the canopy on because it was very windy when it arrived, so I put my big hat on as the sun was hot when it came from behind the clouds.
Took a couple of shots from where I was sitting. Not so much colour now, will get some autumn bedding plants soon.
Then took this photo as I could see the squirrel through the legs of the table that we put water dishes on, not a great zoom on the phone but you can see it!
A sad part of the day was Blue caught a baby goldfinch. Tina did rescue it and there didn’t seem to be any obvious damage. We kept it in a box for a while to rest but it’s seemed not to be able to stand on one leg. Tina phoned a wild animal place it Beverley and we were set to take it when sadly it died. Now buried in the garden.
The three of us went and had very nice fish and chips by the sea, a lovely evening and reasonably quiet on the front,

When we came home Tina and I repositioned the camera in the garden and then we both sat on the swing seat for a bit, Pandora came and sat between us which was cute. We fitted the canopy on so that it is ready for next time we sit out there.
I have a new audio book by Maeve Binchy, it is fourteen short stories, so may listen to one this evening,

  1. That bed looks quite nice. Definitely worth the effort you’ve obviously put into it. Hope the Tamarix survives its move. I know you’ve not had much luck with Tamarix over the years. It does make me smile when you say you’re planting bulbs, after all those that you’ve dug out over the past months!
You obviously have had better weather there than we have. But it’s good that you can use the new swing. I’m sure it will be even better now you’ve got the canopy on. I doubt we will have too much more good weather to come. Or am I just being pessimistic as usual? I didn’t see the squirrel through the table until I read your comment. I was wondering why you took a picture of the table 😊
Fish and chips by the sea is a lovely way to end any day. And they always taste better there.

  2. All in all a good day and progress made. Really did round it off nicely going down to the sea for tea, freshly cooked for us so really delicious.
The bulbs I have dug up and due to be planted again, not my favourite job because of the knees!
It was grey this morning early, but then sunshine and clouds for the afternoon. Will do a bit more tomorrow if the weather is still reasonable.n
