Now that's what I call a sponge!

Going to start in the wrong order today with the sponge just made and then put together. The one the other day was a great improvement on anything I have managed for over three years, but this one is more like I would have expected them to be! So pleased that I can now bake with more confidence again.

This morning Darren and I went to Skirlington again. We were quite lucky here and missed the snow this time, although the wind was bitterly cold. The boot sale didn't happen, but we had a good look round the market. We had a sausage bap when we first arrived and just before we were leaving we spotted a little 'Tea and Cake' area. It seemed very out of place, we had tea for two and a mince pie each and it total it cost £2.90! The lady does all her own baking and so reasonable.
I did quite a bit of sorting when we got back, rearranged the area near my sink in the bedroom, got a couple more pictures up in my living room and personalised the shower room a bit.

As well as making the sponge this afternoon I sorted dinner for Darren and myself (Tina was out to a Christmas lunch with the choir from St. Mary's) Made a crumble and rolled some ready make icing and cut out some decorations for the cakes.
Quite enough for one day, so Strictly results and Blue Planet ll are the order of the evening.

  1. A nice day, with lots achieved. The cake looks REALLY nice. Darren will love you forever :-) The tea and cake place you went to was very cheap. Bet you’ll be popping in there again on one of your little jaunts out on a Sunday morning.
The geckos do make a nice wall decoration. It’s getting more homely there by the day.

  2. Was going to do a chocolate filling but didn't have any cocoa, will put it on the list for next time!
I think we will definitely be having tea and cake again, such a nice lady as well.
Do like my geckos, checked with Darren who just shrugged, so took that as a yes!
