Darren and I went to midnight mass at St Nicholas church Hornsea last night.A good turn out and Tina sailed through it and it was a great service. By the time we had spent a bit of time relaxing once we were all indoors, Tina had been delayed as the congregation sang happy birthday to her after we had left, we weren't in bed until well after 1 am. I went with Tina to St Lawrence church Atwick this morning, an unusual brick built building, very different to St Nicholas.
Lovely inside, there are wall mounted wall heaters that made the whole place very welcoming, but this picture accentuates the redness quite considerably!
The congregation was small and very welcoming and another lovely service. The font in the church looked so much older than the building. No one had actual details but I will try to find out.
When we came out the church was bathed in sunlight, so took another deja vu picture!
Janet, who has been helping with cover during the vacancy drove us to Atwick today and when we came back parked behind the parish house, giving me a different shot of St Nicholas.
Tina was taking another service back at St Nicholas and Darren was engrossed in his 'man cave' so I made up a flask and took a slow walk down to the front.
Walked along the promenade a bit and then took the steps down onto the beach.
Stony at the top, more sand further down. lots of dog walkers out and about, the first time I have walked on the beach since we arrived.
I sat on one of the big rocks and had my coffee. It was chilly but I had wrapped up warmly so was fine.
The sun came out briefly and how that changes the colours!
Back up on the promenade there were some great art works on display, very colourful.
Saw mostly dog walkers and occasional single folk or couples, all very friendly, plenty of 'merry Christmases' fling around. Spotted this family having fun throwing stones into the water as I made my was back.
And one nice sky moment before I left the sea behind.
The rest of the day has been fairly relaxed, some present opening and snacking. We had dinner this evening and then I watched Strictly downstairs with Tina, really not her thing, but I enjoyed it. Did Skype with the American part of the family after the usual trauma of me not being able to connect and getting very stressed!!
Tina had happy birthday renditions at both services today, and it has indeed been a happy day for her, well received and welcomed into her new role and a lot of hard but rewarding work to come.
Lots of pics today. You seem to have fitted a lot into one day, and Christmas Day at that. You should definitely sleep well tonight. I love taking pics of churches myself, so it’s nice to see them. Totally different to each other, but that’s good as it makes them more interesting. I do like the old font too.
ReplyDeleteGetting down to the beach was a nice thing to do on Christmas morning. Not quite the weather for a barbie like the Aussies have though! The artworks are really good, and I’m amazed that they’ve not had additions added by spraycan!
All in all a pretty good day for the northern clan :-)
It has been a good day, very quiet by some standards, but quiet suits me.
ReplyDeleteI like churches too and these two are very different and the n=one at Skipsea is different again.
Nice to get onto the beach, the breakers make it a little more challenging if you have mobility problems, but not impossible!
