It rained all night and has rained all day. You could say I am 'brassed off' today but the rain isn't the cause as you will see later.
Yesterday evening Tina brought home a  large brass pitcher that needs cleaning, to look at it you wouldn't have thought it was brass. It is wanted for a service to welcome the new vicar at St Mary's tomorrow evening.
I got the first layer of dirt off but there was a lot of staining underneath. I called it a day though and was aiming to make it look better today.
This morning Tina had asked me if I would go with her to the church and clean the very large eagle lectern. We had already started when I took the photo, I was working on the stand and Tina on the eagle to start with.
I finished off while Tina had a meeting about the arrangements for the service.

To get it completely clean would have taken a couple of days, but she is shining now and looking very grand. Tina and I decided on the gender!
Tina took me to post my packages and then we went to the shop. I stayed in the car as we didn't need a lot. Tina got a cooked chicken from the hot food counter so we had very nice chicken sandwiches for lunch.
This afternoon I have polished the pitcher some more, again, to get perfection would take a long time, but it is hardly recognisable from yesterday.
Tina had to go out to deliver some items to the church and shouted out to me that there were two crows on the top of the cricket stand wall. We are both big fans of the crows. I can't get close to the window and it was wet, but took a picture of them anyway.
May do a bit of pyrography tonight, or may just find a film to watch. Will hopefully get to the pool tomorrow.

  1. Blimey, that's a big eagle lecturn! It does look good now though. I'm not sure what it was like before you started, but if it was anything like the pitcher then you did a very good job on it. The pitcher has come up very well too. You'd never guess it was the same one! It's hard work too. As you know I recently polished that old blowlamp I bought, so I know what a job it is. Definitely know where to bring the next one I buy, that's for sure :-) Think you earned a nice chicken dinner!
Don't think the liking of crows runs throughout the family. I'm sure Lee isn't so keen on them!

  2. I'll clean a lamp for you as long as I get the finished article!! Seriously I don't mind cleaning brass, but these had been left for so long that it really is hard work.
No, Lee certainly isn't a crow fan, it is a fairly niche interest I think, haven't met many people who like them!
