Welcome rain

The rain was gentle early on so I wandered round the garden to see if the plants were happy, they ar but sadly so are the weeds! I don’t know what is in the compost I am using but little fungi are arriving with the seeds!
It started to rain harder so I decided to go for a walk to return a package for Tina and then look at the sea. Very overcast today.
I did another button picture sample and spent time sorting more buttons!
The rain cleared and the sun came out, so I went into the garden again. I am not going to trim the roots of the bonsais this year but need to get them weeded. I made a start today removing the bigger ones but will have to weed them properly soon. They have all survived and looking better no not half hidden by weeds. The second phot is one I am especially happy with as it is a willow and I actually rooted a twig in water.
Talking of roots I was delighted that two of the ‘prop squad’ cuttings that have been in water for weeks have begun to root.
When I went to get the garden bin in I took a photo of this variegated plant, I really like it.
So not a bad day. The sky is brightening again tonight.

  1. The question is, are the fungi edible? It’d be a bonus if they were 🙂 Looks like your compost might have been mixed with mushroom compost.
The front doesn’t look quite as summery as it has for the past couple of weeks. Still nice though. You can’t beat a walk in the rain. It’s refreshing and under your hood it’s like being in your own little world.
I really do understand why people use buttons a lot in crafting. If nothing else they are just so pretty. So many sizes, shapes and colours. I’m sure your class is going to go down well.
You’ve had those bonsai for so many years. They have proved to be very hardy. I do understand why you’re not doing the roots this year, as I remember how hard work it was last time you did them. Worth the effort though. The willow does look really good.
Is that cutting just sitting in water, or is it a special rooting compound?
I like the variegated plant too. You have so many different plants in that garden…..and bulbs 😊
Hopefully tomorrow will be a slightly drier day. We don’t want too much rain all in one go or everywhere will be flooded again!

  2. It wasn’t cold out in the rain, but I was dripping everywhere by the time I got home.
The buttons are good for crafting.in the good old days when people had shirts or blouses only fit for rags they would cut off the buttons. I used to love sorting through mums button tin even though they weren’t that pretty in those days.
The cuttings have both just been in water, I thought they would just dry up and die, so pleased I kept going with them
The gardens are definitely colourful this year.
