Taking it easy

I had a bad night, aching legs and neck, so much for exercise making you fit! I did go to the banking hub and the shops first thing and called in at Botany Boutique to get some advice on repotting a plant. Apart from that it has been a day of a bit of housework and getting packed and sitting snoozing with the cat!
The weird plant has now opened.
I have enjoyed using my Gtech strimmer, I never did get on with the ones that had a reel of wire! My one is very different and I need some new plaid cutters. Straight from the company fifty cost £3.99  and free postage, can’t be bad.
When I was filling the watering cans I noticed a dandelion clock that still had the end of the dead flower attached.
I will water the garden when the sun goes down, hopefully Tina or Darren will do some watering if there is no rain on the horizon. Off for the journey to Peterborough after I have voted in the morning,

On and off garden day.

No much to say today, I haven’t been out at all, not even to the shop or post box. Not sure how long I actually worked in the back garden as I had lots of breaks as I was hot and sweaty with the effort! A lot of strimming in the ‘jungle’ areas, digging, hoeing, pruning and edging. A lot of beds so a lot of edging, did try some with the strimmer and I am beginning to get the knack. I didn’t take any ‘before’ photos but a few of plants.
Cornflower.

Dandelion clocks, tried a closer one but no macro on my phone!
This weird plant crops up all over the garden, I leave the as the are easy to remove when they have flowered
These blue flowers cropped up a couple of years ago, just one or two to start with and now there are lots.
Got dinner for myself and Darren as Tina is away, then went back out in the garden to do a bit more and the get the hose out. Sitting with Pandora on my lap now!
Visiting Bel tomorrow as I won’t be here on Friday. So then probably a bit more gardening and packing ready for going to Peterborough on Thursday.

Up and out early

I had made arrangements weeks ago to meet up with Judi in Beverley at 10 am today. I didn’t check the buses until yesterday as they are Hoy nice an hour, but not at just after half eight, so I had to catch the one just after seven thirty! The loos and some cafes were open so had a drink before I could browse in some shops. We were meeting at The Treasure House, which I hadn’t been to before but it hoses the library, an art gallery and a museum. Quite an unusual building too.
We had a drink and snack at the cafe and a good natter and then had a quick look in the art gallery and museum. Now that I know it is there and what it has to offer I will be going there again. We walked some of the way back through the town together as I headed for the bus station and Judi back to her car.
I had a wander round the garden and decided I didn’t need to water this evening. The acer trees are looking good. One has been in the ground for about three years now but the other one was in a pot until last year, they were the same size plants when I got them when we lived in Scarborough.
I had an unexpected phone call this afternoon, it was a lady from the museum telling me I had one a prized in the raffle held at the ceramics festival so I went along and collected it. Will be looking for a bargain lampshade now!
I have done a couple of loads of whe if and am still in sorting mode, best make hay while the sun shines!

Hotter today

The forecast heatwave arrived today but I only went out to the boot sale and shops this morning and to hose the garden this evening, I actually felt weary nd not overly energetic but did get on with sorting in the bedroom. Only one buy t the boot sale, a truly unusual vase . Very much to my taste?
I went to Boyes when they were open to get a frame for a print that Darren and Tina gave me yesterday. I bought a frame but although it wa the right size the aperture at the back wasn’t big enough! I hunted through pictures that aren’t on the wall at the moment and found one that was right and the new print is now on the wall. It could be a little higher but I will do that nother day.
I am working through cupboards and storage boxes in the bedroom and rearranging as I go, three empty storage boxes so far.
After we had dinner I did go out to hose the garden and was inside in time to see Grace.

Happy birthday to me!

Darren had to work but I went to have a browse round the ceramics festival before we went out. Talking of ceramics Sher dropped off my pinch bowl that I made at the workshop last week. I am really pleased with it.
Forecast to be the hottest day of the year, sadly not here and we were definitely underdressed! We went to Sewerby Hall and gardens, we haven’t been there for a few years. I only took one picture in the hall but it was really interesting with videos to watch about staff from years ago and many items of interest that could be handled and descriptions of what they were used for. Lots to interest and occupy the younger visitors. After the hall we went round the zoo.
The prairie dog was really cute.
A sunbathing penguin!
Neither of us had seen a caoti before.
We had some lunch then had a walk in the grounds.
We were home before the ceramic festival had closed for the day and I had seen a large snail that would be great in the garden. I had money on one side from when I was doing shifts at the pottery si decided to go and but it.
We had Chinese takeaway got tea and a bit later finished off with cake, so a good birthday.

A bit more walking

I had an appointment this morning so a walk of about half a mile and it made me feel really tired today. I called in to see Sher and my pot is ready but sadly I haven’t got it to take a pic of. Sher said she would drop it in this evening but hasn’t called yet. I do have a picture of Tina’s new batch of candles that she is making from used church candles.
I walked to Jeans via the sea front, really must build up the walking again. Gardening is exercise but not many steps!
Thought this one has an unusual cloud formation.
I like grasses and this plant in the memorial garden is producing seeds.
Terry gave me a lift home as usual, I have done a bit of sorting but not too enthusiastically!
Hopefully going out with Tina for a while tomorrow.

Button eyes!

This morning I visited Bel, she wasn’t feeling too well so I was allowed to make the drinks again. She has a new lady going to help with the house cleaning tomorrow, although her house is always enviably today and clean!
I have tried to get on with sorting the 1000 small buttons into colour groups, may finish sorting them this evening before I end up seeing buttons everywhere I look!
I was given a large plant at Christmas and it is producing a new leaf. The pot I had it in was too small and I could lift the flowerpot out to see if it needed water. A few of my other plants have strong stems and I can lift them by picking the plant up complete with pot but the new one feels like it will snap if I do that. So I took my ruler with me nd went to Boyes and got a nice new pot very cheaply. The new leaf it the curled red piece in the middle, the plant has those spikes as well.
Tina is feeling a bit better and decided to make candles today, and she has snooker and darts to watch on the tv, so I went into the front garden. Pandora wa out keeping an eye on me, she went and sat under the yukka when she was getting too hot in the sun.
I should have taken a before photo as I was working for a couple of hours but I will just say that I cleared all the way along this edge and you couldn’t really see there were large stones when I started and they were screened by the weeds in the gravel and hanging down from the beds!
Best get back to those buttons!
