Icon course and catch up from yesterday

I will start with a bit about my day in Hull yesterday, the time not spent at the show which was on the blog yesterday. Took a picture of this plant on my way out in the morning, one of my favourites with the multi coloured flowers.
I had a while before I needed to be at the venue so I had a coffee in St Stephens and walked up passing many shops. I don’t go into showing malls early n a Sunday and was amazed to see queues outside all the stores waiting for them to open! At the far end there is this lane that ai haven’t noticed before.
Walking to the venue ai passed this shop, a lot of places in the city now have painted windows and shutters.
After I had been checked in at the venue and had my goodie bag I had about three hours before I could get in to see the show. Had some lunch and then went to the art gallery and had a good wander round. Took some photos, the first one of an icon!

Liked the detail in that fabric!

Loved the paper spider, very clever.
I went into Princes Quay for a look round, couldn’t actually do any shopping as you weren’t allowed to take bags into the show. Shame really as the Vintage store had a sale out in the open and everything was £5.
Then I was off to the show which I wrote about yesterday. I met Tina at the station and before she arrived I took a photo of this painted wall.
Today was the fourth day of five of the icon painting course. We were working on the face today. Firstly two lots of high lights on the green.
Then a brown wash and some work on the hair.
He sai my hair stands were too thin so I painted them out before lunch and redid them after lunch!
Then some high lights on the hair, but not looking a lot different. Next week we will be putting a wash on the hair to blend it in.
Then we did a lighter wash on the face and painted in the features.
Quite tough going today but I was pretty tired!
Visited Sarah and David briefly this evening and will watch the final part of Holding before I go to bed.

  1. It was a very long day for you yesterday but at least you got to see a few different things, and get pics. The art gallery looks really interesting. I’m surprised they let you take pics in there as I know some of them can be funny about it. The paper models are really good, the spider in particular. That could be your next project after you finish the icon 😊 Can’t have you sitting around getting bored!
I’m really liking the icon. So many stages to making it. But it’s coming on lovely. I think the face is very good. Definitely not an easy thing to do. Just need to get rid of the alien hand now 😄
I’m looking forward to the last episode of Holding too. It’s been a great series.

    1. Yes, I filled the time okay yesterday which was good.
I have really enjoyed the icon course but it is quite an exacting discipline.
Will have a quiet morning tomorrow as it is Families at three in the afternoon.
