Dreaded ground elder!

This morning I did some overdue chores and got the bird table pieces into the garden as Paul had texted to say he would do it today. Then I went out into the front garden with the idea of sorting out the path along to the garden bin. The first thing to do was to actually lift the pavers as hoeing round the edges wouldn’t even begin to control the ground elder.
The problem is evident with the amount of the roots under the pavers.
I was probably digging for over an hour when rain stopped play, I was only about a third of the way along and the amount of roots was impressive!

I got in touch with Paul, who hadn’t arrived by lunch time, and then the rain meant he didn’t arrive at all. I packed the bird feeder parts into the cupboard outside rather than bring it indoors again.
In the spare room I have piles of stuff gathering for a boot sale but have decided to start taking it across to the charity shop a bit at a time. I carried two rather heavy bags across and as I was leaving spotted a lovely little tray in the window. I went back in and said ai had no money with me, she said I could have it for a pound and drop the money in next time I was in, no rush.
I sorted out another couple of not so heavy bags and took them over, along with my purse to settle my debt!
I got some humming birds wall art last week, I have tried to put three of them on the fireplace twice and they have fallen down. Maybe the gloss paint is too shiny as the area you stick with is very small. I put them on the wall a couple of hours ago and so far so good. Quite appropriate that they are below the picture of JoJo the cockatiel I hand reared many years ago.
Feeling quite weary now, but have been reasonably busy today.

  1. So much for retirement and taking it easy when you get older! Bet you’re pooped after lifting and carrying slabs, digging etc, carrying bags etc etc! I think tomorrow should be a day of rest.
Shame you didn’t get the bird table put together, it’s been ages now. Grab your screwdrivers Darren 😊 You should go on strike, no cakes or nice puddings until it’s done!
I like the little tray. Perfect for sitting next to you with tea and chocolates on while you rest with your feet up. Hint hint!
Not a bit surprised your quite weary. You’ve done enough exercise for two people!
    Stubborn old bugger! 😄

  2. Nice to be a bit energetic, although I may not be thinking that in the night!
Would be good to get a bit more done tomorrow.
