Short and maybe sweet eventually!

Not a lot to report today as I haven’t been out and apart from the usual Sunday chores I have been working on the table cover. I sewed up half of the centre blocks yesterday and worked on the other six today. When I was pressing them I discovered that just one set of three squares were squares were on the wrong way so not too much unpicking! Then I went downstairs and started trying to lay them out, not as easy as it sounds to avoid wrong pieces together.

At the ends of the cloth I have faced the blocks a different way. Plenty of possibilities to get it wrong as I continue. I drew a rough plan and pinned numbered and arrowed papers on them before gathering them up.
I have the twelve two third blocks to sew now and then have to see how they match up with the central part, but it is good to have a project on the go that makes me think as well!,
Throw Down and Trigger Point tonight, so some tv time.

Quilting and snow!

This morning after helping with the shopping delivery and going out on a couple of errands I got all the cut squares downstairs and started laying them out on the table. I hadn’t got a plan in mind as to how I was going to use the different fabrics but once they were laid out I moved them around and made sure I had an even mix.
I gathers them up carefully and it is quit a pile!
After lunch I went round to look at the icon exhibition in the parish hall.  The course starts soon and I am probably going to attend it. It was interesting to see the different icons ad styles. Soon after that it began to snow.
I then started to lay out the two third blocks. I worked out that I would only have to cut them back if I made twelve more full blocks. These are laid out wrongly as the centre trees need to be on the right, but I will make sure I get them right when sewing them, fingers crossed!
The snow fell steadily for a while but didn’t get very thick!

One assembled block. I have actually completed six of them now.
When the blocks are sewn I will be laying them out again and moving them around and then have to label them in rows, as you don’t want to be unpicking when it is long rows!

Seeing squares!

Apart from going to the shop to get lunch I have stayed in today, although to be fair we have been pretty lucky with the weather although it has got a lot rougher this evening. I have spent a good bit of the day cutting out six inch squares of fabric. Had toe take regular breaks as standing really stiffens my knees up and it is not a job you can do sitting down. First picture is of a purchase from Lidl yesterday, very tasty, wish I had bought two!
So now I have cut all the squares and will have quite a job sorting them into nine square blocks. I was making a mess but cleared up at each break!

Tina would love Blue to be more of a lap cat and would really like it if she curled up on the bed at night. She took to Tina’s temporary bed today, cats are so contrary!
So, a short entry, but you never know what tomorrow may bring.

Charging point hunt!

Tina’s day off and we did go out for a bit leaving Darren and promising to bring McDonalds back for him! We went to Lidl but called into a Costa first as Tina hadn’t had breakfast. She had a small cup of coffee!

The Lidl is next door but she was good and we parked by Costa and then went to Lidl where there is a charging point. Sadly, because we didn’t go straight there someone else was at the point and was going to be an hour! We did some shopping in Lidl, I got a great scrapbook rally cheap and they had the Limoncino that I used to buy years ago, back in the Peterborough days!
We then went to a Tesco that had charging points but they were in use or non electric cars were parked in the spaces! So then a few more miles to a Morrisons and the same scenario! So we collected some food and came home. After lunch I went down with Tina to the leisure centre where she did get the car on charge and we picked up some gym membership forms for Darren. We walked home. We did look at the sea.

We watched the curling and our boys got into the final, good that we will get at least one medal at the Winter Olympics. After that I did do some more cutting, about another fifty squares and then my legs were really aching and had stiffened up, so when Tina said she was going down to collect the car I said I would walk down with her. That loosened them up a bit. There were about seven ships on the horizon, which was very unusual, we wondered if they were queuing to get into Hull ahead of the impending storm.
After tea I did a bit more cutting but that is it for today. Probably do another few sessions of cutting tomorrow as the weather is due to be pretty awful.

Trip to Driffield

This morning we all did lateral flow tests, Tina was taking a service in church and I wanted to get to Driffield via the buses. Darren was just checking and he is indeed still positive. Tina and I both had negative tests. I cut strips of the fabric I already have so that I could take it along to hold against any others that take my fancy.
The journey to Driffield is a bus to Beverley and then another one from there to Driffield. The timetables said that I would miss the second bus by four minutes so would have  almost an hour to wait, but as it happened the first bus arrived early and parked in the next bay to the one for Driffield so I got on it with about a minute to spare! The driver had explained where to get off and it was actually right outside the Yorkshire Trading Company, the very shop I wanted to go to, as I thought that was where I had bought the fabric ai already have. The lady didn’t recognise my samples and there was not a lot of choice. I ended up getting a metre of one with stags on and five metres of on with trees, that will be enough for some squares and the backing. I think they will work okay!
Driffield was pretty quiet today, and I liked the pub wall which I could see when waiting for the bus back to Beverley.
I had a bit of lunch before catching the bus and the cafe served chai lattes which was great. Many years ago I used to have the chai lattes at Sainsbury’s.
Just a ten minute wait for the second bus so didn’t hang about in Beverley as the material was quite heavy and bulky!
I spent some time cutting it some squares this afternoon, I have only done about thirty five and that has made my wrists ache, I need over two hundred in total so preparation may take a while, then I played a bit with laying them out.
A very bright moon this evening, this photo is reasonable because it was on full zoom and hand held!
The bad weather is heading this way so may be cutting out more squares tomorrow!
Sadly, Tina’s niece and her children are not going to visit now due to the storm, not long drive weather. They had still been going to visit despite Darren having Covid. A real shame as we have had hardly any visitors and when we moved to the seaside we though we would be inundated!

Thinking quilting then a walk in Skipsea

Some time ago I bought a metre each of three different upholstery weight fabrics with animal theme thinking maybe I would make a quilt some time. I have been thinking of making a cover for the large dining room table so took lots of measurements and worked out how may squares I would need. Not planning a complicated design! I measured the fabrics and worked out how many squares I could get out of each, the total was a long way short of the number I needed. I sorted out another piece of fabric with trees on and at a push I could get the twenty four centre squares of the blocks. That was still short of what I needed! I wanted to post my patient survey off so called in at Boyes on the way back to see if they had any material that would blend with the ones I had. I think I got the fabric at the Yorkshire Trading post in Driffield and I my have to go there again as there was nothing suitable at Boyes.
I thought I would start cutting out some squares but then Tina said she had a meeting in Skipsea if I wanted to go for a walk around the village. The weather was reasonable so I took the offer. I started by walking out of the village towards Ulrome and turned round wine the pavement stopped!

The kestrel was too far away!
I wonder how old these hedges are.
Snowdrops in the verge and I turned round just after the upturned boat shape.

Passed this amusing sign on the way back to the village.

I turned into a different street and passed the Board Inn, Tina had told me that they offer coffee and cake in the afternoon, it was 2.45pm by then and the offer was until three so I went in. Very quiet and I had a little table out f the way, near the loos too!
After that I continued down that street, passed this brilliant barn.
Would you believe a glamping place in Skipsea!
Had a sit down at a little green, by a well.
Passed the methodist church on the way back to All Saints.
Then up to All Saints where Tina was in her meeting.
The view from the church porch.
The meeting was still going on so I went for a walk away from the church.

A view back at the church and a dyke from a higher bridge a bit further along the road.

When the meeting was finished we came home, a nice afternoon and I had a better walk than I have in a while.

Dreary day!

The weather has been dreary today and what I have to write about is pretty dreary too. I did go along the road to post some letters for Tina and to collect some more lateral flow tests from the chemist. I thought about going into the garden for a while but it began to rain so ended up doing chores. I moved things around in the bedroom and found a home for the pile of empty boxes which have been adorning my bedroom! Then I sorted out the spare bedroom and pumped up the air bed and Tina’s niece and her children are visiting later in the week revising Tina hasn’t tested positive by then. I ordered a new driving licence a few days ago, free if you are over seventy. Easy form on line and not even a new put needed. I don’t drive now but it is good as picture ID. I went out again to send the old one back, checking very carefully that I cut the right side me in half!
Two pics of the church when I went to post it and one of a nice cluster of crocuses in the churchyard.

I do a free postcode lottery every day on line, suggested to me by Mike years ago. There are sometimes offers which I usually just skip past, but last week you could send for a wash bag made completely from recycled plastic. Just had to pay postage. It arrived today and it is very attractive.

Getting lots of emails and offers from then now, but it is a very interesting range.
I have filled in an NHS patient survey this evening, I have had lots of messages about it and two copies of the form, so thought I would do it as they are so keen for a response!
The forecast for this week is more dreary days, so have better get my thinking cap on for tomorrow!
