Surprise lunch out

This morning David phoned quite early to see if I wanted to join him and Sarah for lunch at The Bay Tree. We arranged to meet at 11.30 am. Nice food there but the service is very slow. I popped indoors before heading out again as I really wanted to go to Sher’s new shop which opened  today. It is absolutely lovely, it is full of work by local artist and craft people, I am sur wit will be a great success. I took a few photos.
I bought a glass vase with a pretty outer cover. It came with a string of lights and looks very pretty with those inside.
Out of order but I took a photo of this flower bed when feeding the birds first thing. Not flowers, but I thought the colours were attractive.
I struggling walking for meow than few steps, but thought I would like to try and get a few plants into the garden. I had. Dozen wallflowers that have been waiting for a couple of weeks, not from the latest batch! I did get them in and then it rained, so good timing!
I am watching Strictly, but have opened the box for the table clock to make, maybe make a start tomorrow.

Going downhill!

The knee wasn’t good during the night and today no improvement, in fact getting distinctly worse! I did walk to Bel’s, she lives quite near, but even that was probably too far. I have done some household chores and as it was bright and windy got some washing dry outside.
Jean came here this afternoon, Terry dropped her off and collected her. She was in pain with her back so we were a right pair of crocks!
I heard from Sher and hope to go and see the new shop which opens officially tomorrow.
So not a lot to tell but did put a new mechanism in a clock I made a long time ago. Probably twenty years or more go I made clocks for family members for Christmas. I had a book showing how to paint the shape to look a bit like marble. I didn’t make one for myself but when I was hoping Rose clear the house she said she wouldn’t keep the clock which was still on the wall in the hall. The mechanism was broken so ordered a new one nd got around to fitting it tonight. The old mech had a hanging hook but the new one didn’t, so hand put it on a small easel for now.

I managed to stay in the bed last night, but think it could be the recliner tonight!

Sad memory

This morning when I was feeding the bird I took a photo of the lovely cyclamen that are flowering near Charlie’s grave. For those that don’t know he wa out lovely cat who got run over during the school run ab out three years ago. Then, weirdly, a photo memory of four years go came up today and it was of Charlie.
While I was out there I removed some large branches, well, small trees really from the dead tree. The tree was dead when we moved in but I have used it asa bird food tree! But more years, squirrel damage and high winds have finished it off!
Tina has had a busy nd sometimes difficult week but did find time to take me to the garden centre. We had a late breakfast and then I bought rather. Lot of plants!
I also bought a little kit, just seemed appropriate after going to the concert on Saturday.
I used the walking stick for the outing and the leg wasn’t feeling too good.
This afternoon I had an appointment to have my flu and Covid jabs at the chemist t the other end of Newbegin. I really struggled with leg even though I used the rollator and really needed to rest as soon as I got indoors. I was supposed to go to Sher’s launch evening for her new shop but have messaged to say I won’t be going.
Darren and Tina have gone to Heron Lakes for a couple of days now, they have a lakeside lodge this time so it should be great sitting on the balcony.
Not sure when the plants will make it into the beds, maybe my knee will feel fantastic tomorrow!

Really quite busy!

Not a great night again but gave myself a talking to and decided to get into the garden today. Went out early to post another letter and took some churchyard photos!
Spent some time in the garden this morning, the giant sea kale really needed sorting as well as the rest of the bed!
The dead parts of the sea kale looked a bit like a modern are exhibit, Blue liked. It!
When I went in for lunch I opened my package, a little shredder. Thought it would be nice to shred some of the veggies for stir fries.
Went back out in the garden for a bit to tidy the debris away.
This red rose in the front garden was blowing around well, but worth photographing even it not completely sharp results.
Finished yet another jigsaw this afternoon!
Had to use the shredder!
I walked to Boyes this morning to buy material, more about that another day. Also called in to collect the different medication so will see how that goes. I am in two minds bout sleeping on the recliner tonight but may change my mind again!

Changeable weather

At the moment I go from being cold to stepping outside a bit later and thinking how warm it is! Had rain for a while as well today, I guess autumn is settling in. Not the best of days otherwise as the pain has been quite bad, so just a couple of short walks to post box and shop! Was going to do a bit of gardening but thought better of it today. I started another jigsaw last night and have done a bit to it today.
Got that one at the boot sale a couple of weeks back and it looked colourful and reasonable to do.
I put the garden chickens back out today as Jayne cut the lawn again yesterday. They look better now the grass is shorter!
The large pampas doesn’t seem to have any blooms this year but the small one has some and more than it has had before.
Some nice late colour in the tubs I made out of caravan sinks!
This hollyhock looks all but dead but is still flowering at the top!
Apart from usual chores that’s it, don’t hold your breath that it will be any more interesting tomorrow,

Busier day!

I made an appointment for my Covid jab this morning but still needed to get the flu jab booked. Had a walk along Newbegin, we have three chemists, two had walk ins in a few days time, the third one, where I am having the Covid jab said I can ask for the flu one at the same time, so that is what I will do.
My knee was really painful but need to keep it moving, so decided to go into the garden and tidy the front bed that passers by see first, the path was so overgrown that you couldn’t  really see where the bed started. Managed to get it looking a bit more presentable.
After lunchI went out again, the bushes at the back of that bed needed today if and you couldn’t see where the lawn ended there!
The new air fryer has a rotisserie option but it will only take a very small chicken. Tina ordered one as she thought we should at least try it once. So I struggled to got it on the spit but it cooked quite well. Might not be in a hurry to cook one gain though.
Have written a couple of letters and then took the recycling down to the bin. I bought a hare ornament with led light a while ago and have never checked it worked. It was getting dark when I went to the bin and I got a nice surprise. Pretty pics to finish!

Restful day

Not a great deal to say today, the leg has been pretty painful so not been too active. It was raining first thing so we didn’t go to the boot sale and we went hand had breakfast at Lily’s on the sea front, just took one picture of a very uninviting looking sea.
Still quite a lot of barriers up, it has been even more restricted during the summer which has been a shame as people couldn’t walk along the front.
When we got back I popped to the shop and then went out and fed the birds, that was it for outside activity!
I watch a black and while 1940s film and finished the jigsaw.
Really enjoyed doing that one,
I got dinner and used the newer air fryer for the first time, used both in fact, dinner in one and the crumble in the other!
Just watched a great wildlife program with the lovely Hamza, so enthusiastic about what he does.
Maybe a bit more activity tomorrow, depends on the state of play with the knee,

Braving a trip out on the bus!

As  I heard there was a cello concert in Beverley today at lunchtime so got myself a ticket and set off this morning. The seat I sat in on the bus hadn’t got a lot of leg room so my knee was a bit achey on arrival. I had time for a quick drink before going to the church. We had to queue outside so took a photo while I waited!
The concert was part of a series over a few days. There were five cellists and it was a lovely hour. This page from the program lists the pieces they played. There were articles about each composer and at the back details about the different cellists.

The church was really full which was great. After that I went and had lunch at The Monkey Tree, great wallpaper and I tried something different for lunch, a cray fish salad with avocado and mango! Never had crayfish before, not totally convinced I will have them again, but it was a lovely salad.
Then I went round the town, did some shopping for essentials and some not, but it is probably a couple of months since I browsed shops, so although I might pay for it, worth every painful moment! I got the new Richard Osman book half price with a free book thrown in!
Glad to be sitting on the bus coming home as walked quite away round the town.
Did feed the birds when I got home and took a photo of the autumn crocuses.
First live Strictly show to enjoy this evening.

Taking it steady, present this evening!

My knee has been iffy today so I have been taking it easy as I plan to catch the bus to Beverley tomorrow to go to a lunchtime cello concert at St Mary’s church. There will be five cellists in all and two of the pieces they will play have been written for four cellos.
I did some washing and got it on the line before Bel came to visit. We had a nice chat as usual. When she left I went to the shop for a couple of things..
This afternoon I pottered and did a bit to the jigsaw until Tin arrived home. When I got the washing in I took a couple of flower pictures in the walled garden.
Tina got me a lovely gift from a shop at Walsingham, so will finish with a couple of pictures of it.
