After lunch I set off for Jeans. Took this poppy photo in the memorial garden, was holding the phone above the flower so couldn’t see what I was taking!
Really cold out again, the heatwave isn’t about to hit here! The beach was quiet today.
Jean was okay, but worrying about anything and everything as usual. Crackers is still staying with them, so I had him on my lap for a while. Terry drove me home as usual. Tina was home and says she feels a bit better.
Now to the latest bright idea. Tina bought me some material in Africa and I thought it would be good to make something with it, to surprise Tina and not to have some more fabric tucked away that would be there for ever!
It was two metres so needed to find something that I would use that wasn’t too big. I thought of a waistcoat but that produced the first problem, nowhere locally sells dress patterns. I ordered one on line that turned out not to be suitable but the second attempt seemed okay. I had to tweak it a bit as I had some other material and decided to make it lined. (Watch this space!)
I cleared the dining room table to sort out the pattern pieces I needed and got everything cut out. When I had sewn the outer and lining I pinned them together and decided to try it on. It was catching on my top so I got stabbed by a few pins, couldn’t get in on properly and then struggled even more to get it off without stabbing myself some more. I had got interfacing and contrast bias binding from Boyes and carried on regardless. When I had it sewn without pins and some binding attached I tried it on again over a smooth too. Same problem! The lining I had chosen is textured so it just isn’t going to ever be worn! I made such a good job of getting the patter right to!
Talk to Tina saying I could pin it up on the wall she said I could have it on a hanger and display it covered in the brooch pins I have had over the year. So I will finish off the binding and that is what I will do!
As you say, you’re still walking, which is definitely the important bit. It’s such a damn nuisance for anyone, but for someone as active as you usually are it’s even worse. Still time for that miraculous cure though!
ReplyDeleteI love the poppy pic. You did ok considering you couldn’t see. You even got the walker in 😊 Has the walker got a name yet?
Not wishing to rub it in, but it’s been a beautiful day here. Bit too hot at times 😄
Glad to hear the Rev is feeling a bit better.
The waistcoat looks really great. What a total pain that it can’t be used as intended. The patterns match up so well too. What a bugger! I quite like Tina’s idea of the pins, but it would have been nice to have used it properly. I’m sure it’ll look good though.
No, the walker hasn’t got a name, will work on that one!
ReplyDeleteIt really has been very cool here this week, in fact cold! Glad you are enjoying the alleged heatwave though!
To say the whole episode of the waistcoat has been a bit frustrating to say the least, but I will use it for display so that it gets seen!
