Dentist, tip and Blairgowrie

I have been asked to give a talk on bonsai to the local WI next spring, so I have started taking photos and saving them in a folder. If the new ones take it will hopefully be interesting to see their progress. A couple of the mature trees I pruned have quie a lot of new growth now.

The two saplings, one beech and one rowen are very different at the moment, the Roman seems okay, the beech very sad, but maybe it will survive.

The Birnam baby looks even worse!
After that I set off for Dunkeld for my dental appointment. We have a health service dentist and the charging is different up here. Check ups are yearly instead of six monthly but they are free, with charges for all other treatment, but very reasonable. I had a thorough check up and discussion on issues, three x-rays and a clean and it was just over £35. While I was in Dunkeld I took the two canvasses I painted to the collection point. I walked along the river path both ways.
I did post a pic of the small sculpture by the Birnam oak before but today took close ups of the people hiding in it as well.

When I got home Tina was loading the car with boxes from the small shed. The small shed had literally been full to the roof. The removal firm had come to collect them at last today, but would only take the ones they supplied. As the boxes hadn’t arrived until a few days before we left less than half of the in the shed were taken. With the car packed we went to the tip. This evening we have moved stuff from the big shed into it.
From the tip we went to the ice cream place and had their special dessert. A Perthshire pancake with ice cream , strawberries and cream on top and given a knife and fork to eat it with! That was easier than it sounds.
Outside I took a pic of their pig.
From there we went straight to Blairgowrie as Tina was going to afternoon tea with The Mothers Union and I had a wander round the town. Called in a couple of charity shops and some crafty places and had a cuppa. They had one of the soldier figures outside the British Legion building, but a Scottish one.
They have town and street names in two languages, which is interesting.
Tina got me a collection box for Mary’s Meals which I will fill as I never did get the pig in Dunkeld.
I finished two books yesterday and enjoyed both.

After sorting the sheds I watered the garden and trees and that is enough for one day.

  1. It’s a good idea keeping a photo log. Plus you’ve got plenty of time to plan out exactly what you’re going to talk about. Rather you than me. I don’t think I could do that 😊 I do hope the oak survives. All that trimming and the warm weather can’t help, you’ll bring it back to life though 🤞🤞
Sounds like the dental treatment up there is far better than here, well it’s certainly cheaper. I should hate to think how much three X-rays and a clean would cost here! The fact you walked along the river path to go to the dentist sounds so idilic. I suppose it’ll be different with three foot of snow 😊😊
I remember the pics you put up of the sculpture before. I would never have guessed they were hiding in there. That’s so cute.
It must be nice to finally get rid of all the boxes and use the little shed as intended. I know someone who will be more than pleased the big shed now has more room in it 😊
The Perthshire pancake dessert sounds so good. I really could eat that right now. I’m sure you’ll be going back for a return visit. The pig looks so comfy 🐷🙂
Nice to get out for a ride with Tina. Another place to add to the list of those scouted out for the good shops. You should definitely try to learn the alternative pronunciation of the street names. I think that would gain points towards not being considered a sassenach 😊
The collection box will cost you a few bob to fill. It looks quite big!
I assume you have other books waiting to be started on?
    Hopefully you’ll sleep well tonight.

  2. I am pretty sure that two of the sticks are about to come into leaf which is good.
The dentist was lovely and it was a very pleasant surprise when she told me the cost of my visit. I have an appointment for later in the year for another clean and a filling and that will be under £60, I rarely left the private dentist who could never fit me in if I had a problem, paying less than £100.
It is good to have the shed empty , I will get sorting any tools I don’t need and keep what is necessary.
I am finding my way round Blairgowrie now, a nice town..
I am sure we will be sampling the Perthshire pancakes again and we need to get Darren there to sample one!
I am spoilt for choice with books, Tina got me one at the meeting today written by Anton Du Beke.
