Hot and very busy Edinburgh

I left home soon after eight to get to the station and catch the train to Edinburgh. The rhododendrons along the church path as I went through are coming into bloom, very pretty.

When I got to Edinburgh I familiarised myself with the station, where escalators and lifts were to different platforms and where information and loos are. Then time for a drink before going out into Princes Street. It was very hot and very busy, like bing in Oxford Street in London! Numerous benches in Princes gardens  but not many unoccupied! Started taking pics.

The Royal Scottish Academy had their annual exhibition, it was the 200 year anniversary so they were offering people party hats as they went in. A few of us took them and wore them whilst looking round!
Most of the work was for sale, don’t think I saw anything for under £1000 and the crouching youth bronze in the photos wA £100,000. Some items were very modern and some more traditional.

This painting caught my eye and the plaque next to it was sad and shocking.

This next one won an award.

One more photo and then I crossed over to go in shops to stay out of the heat for a while.
I missed the direct train home so he to change at Perth. I had tried to get timetables but they haven’t had them for years and there aren’t even any up on the walls as there used to be. I did download the app which states it has timetables, but I can’t find them! I got home hot and tired, but at least I feel more confident about travelling now.
Tina took a couple of photos while she was out so will finish with those, while I sit here and get used to my new chair.

  1. Some cracking pics today. All the shrubbery and scenery up there all looks so colourful and well looked after. I’m sure there are run down places too. But it just looks so much better than down here.
I’m glad to got the reccy on the station done. I would have done exactly the same in your situation. At least you won’t be thrown in at the deep end when you travel. Shame you couldn’t get good old fashioned timetables. Not all the new ways are good, far from it! I’m sure you’ll get the app sorted and get the info you need out of it. You don’t give up easily 😊
There’s some great stuff in that exhibition, even if you have to wear a daft hat 😂 I like the wooden lorry and the back end of the Morris Traveller is great. Not so keen on the pile of stools though. Reminds me of some of Tracy Emin’s “artwark”! The painting is very eye catching. The text really puts it into perspective. How depressing ☹️
I bet you were annoyed missing the direct train home! Nothing worse when all you want to do is get home and kick your shoes off and relax. But a worthwhile day I think.
    Nice pics from Tina.
You should sleep well tonight, maybe in your new chair.

  2. I wasn’t exactly annoyed about the trains, just frustrated that I can’t plan in the way I like to. It will take a while to find my way round in Edinburgh, I was only in one street today and it was a lot to take in, but being quite a long train ride way I won’t be going that regularly.
The exhibition was very interesting, the stools were an exercise in the architectural section showing the grey scale, an unusual way of doing it. It was very varied so enjoyable and quite a few people took a ht and wore it. I hve brought mine home!
