This morning I fed the Christmas cakes and then got ready to walk to a part of the beach I haven’t been to before. I didn’t mention on Saturday that I had gone to an event at the museum where some people were displaying their fossils and minerals. The couple who collect fossils were fascinating and the vast array of items they had had all been found on the beach between Hornsea and Mappleton. That part of the beach is accessed from the car park that is near the inshore lifeboat station. So I took a bottle of water and a hammer and set off to walk there. Passed the wall art and the inshore building after taking a picture as soon as I got to the front.
The view as I got to the end of the car park I could see Mappleton church. The steps down to the beach were definitely not intended for the elderly!
Those were about a foot deep with shallow treads, I was very careful! Then I wasn’t sure I could get much further but there was a way through. Several pics and evidence of coastal erosion.
The view towards Bridlington as I was back at the top.I had a drink at the cafe at the inshore lifeboat cafe. Seats outside, and really pleasant, and they had a puffin!
We had a chat with Tina earlier as she had a talking day. She sounds very relaxed which is good and I will finish with a couple of photos that she sent.
I keep forgetting it’s Monday today, so you did well to remember to feed the cakes.
ReplyDeleteA bottle of water and a hammer is always the sign of a good day out 😊 I love the idea of finding fossils on a beach. Cracking something open and seeing something no one else has seen before. I think I’d get pleasure from doing that, but only if someone else bent down and picked everything up for me 😊 Getting old spoils so many things. Ironic really when you’re talking about fossils 😂
I love the fish with all those teeth. That could be a fossil too! It was a fair old trek to get there, and those steps look quite dangerous for people with bad legs! You do pick some unlikely places to visit. But your hammer got an outing, so that’s good. It’s also a bonus you didn’t get arrested for carrying an offensive weapon👮♂️ 😂 Some of it looks a bit like the moon! The pic of what looks like an old brick pillar covered in weed and smoothed by erosion is good. It’s amazing what you come across.
I bet the cup of tea tasted good after that little trek! A bonus puffin too.
I like the rock you brought home. It’s nice, and it’ll remind you of the trek. I bet you will do the walk to Mappleton. Once you get an idea you usually carry it out 😊
Tina does get some good pics when she’s out and about. She goes to some nice places. I wonder how long the relaxed feeling will last once she gets back. She definitely needs to hide in the house for a while when she’s back.
It did feel like a bit of a trek and very enjoyable although I wasn’t really out that long. The couple I was talking to about the fossils were so enthusiastic and quite inspiring, made me think of teachers who really inspire kids because they are so interesting to listen to,
ReplyDeleteI have always liked those paintings along the sea wall, and they do seem to be respected which is great.
I did enjoy the cut papa before walking home, it was quite hot again today and I am getting on a bit!
I really like the rock I bought home, will perhaps have in in. PlNt arrangement.
Tina does sound relaxed so fingers crossed this break will really do her good.
