Window day has arrived

I had a walk round the garden before the workmen were due, not looking too bad if I ignore the weeds! Nice poppies opening now.
The men arrived in their vans before 8.30am but went off to get breakfast as Tina had said she wanted them to wait until she was back from morning prayer at 9 am. The three men are staying in am air B &B for the week and will leave one of the vans on the drive because there is limited parking where they are staying. They started on my rooms today and were well equipped with dust sheets so most things were covered, except of course the mini forest!
Some photos of work going on, there were other workmen who had a job nearby who were leaving stuff at the top of the garden, so all do at the vicarage.
Then both windows were out!
They had their work cut out with the layers of paint and rotten wood!
I had a very productive morning sorting out paperwork and getting things in order, after lunch it clouded over and I was about to go out and get Tina’s washing is as she was out to lunch. I had thought Pandora was looking a bit odd a while earlier and then I knew why, as she had deposited a little live mouse by the back door. I shooed her away and the mouse ran into the house, I managed to throw a cloth over it when it stopped dead. One of the men was coming down the stairs and I called home to come and help me. I have no problem handling them it was more I would need two hands free to catch it so needed him to lift the cloth! Think it made his day nd I had to go and show one of the others before I let it go well away from Pandora. It was very lively and no damage so hopefully it found somewhere to hide and rest.
The guys put my windows back in although they are not finished and put my rooms back to rights for this evening. They will be coming out again tomorrow.
I started getting the kitchen window cleared this afternoon. I need to find more things to take downstairs to get on with tomorrow as I think Tina has a busy day. So I will be on tea making duties and watching the progress with interest .
I am hoping Pandora doesn’t get too good at catching the mice, but at lest this one wasn’t hurt, just terrified!

  1. The poppies always add a lot of colour to the garden, and they distract your eyes away from the weeds 🙂
Typical window fitter, get to the customer and then disappear for a greasy spoon breakfast 😂 Sets you up for the day though. I think they’ll have their work cut out for a week, but they will get lots of tea, and probably biscuits 😊 Don’t slow them down too much! They’re normally pretty good at covering stuff up and being careful with customer’s belongings. Handy you have a big driveway and garden for them to make use of.
Good set of pics showing the work in progress. I like the way you caught the workman with a cuppa to his lips. Very British 😊
It’ll all be worth a bit of calamity for a day or so. Opening windows, so novel!
I bet it’s not every house they go to where they have to help catch mice 😂
Looks like they’re doing a good job of the windows. Renovating sash windows isn’t the easiest job in the world, specially when you’re doing it all on site. I feel sorry for the poor chap, or chapess, who had to paint them!
You have it all to do again tomorrow, hopefully minus the mouse catching bit!

  2. Pandora was really spooked by the upheaved this morning, perhaps that gave her more reason for hunting as she hasn’t really been catching things up until now. I really hope it was a one off.
They are a friendly group of men and certainly being very careful and considerate. They were off to Tesco when they left to get provisions for the week! It will definitely be worth it and when my rooms are finished I can carry on sorting while they work in the rest of the house! I am definitely on a roll!
