The icon is coming on

Tina was back late last night and she gave me a little Easter box that she had bought in St Paul’s on Saturday. It is a Fair Trade one and very cute.
The icon course was quite intensive today, firstly we had to clean up the edges and the gold with a scalpel and then go over the outside edge again. Mine had been a bit blotchy so now it should have a more even texture when it is finished.
Then we had to mix blue for the robe and do several layers. He gave us sheets today of the layering process to get the effect of the folds in due course.
Had to mix the colours for the buildings as well before I took that photo and then it was the hair.
Then the base colour for the skin, which is green! He will bring sheets of the drawing for the next session so that we can trace down the details of the folds, beard etc.
The book next, firstly the ages and then the cover. We used the grains in the tempera again and when they are scraped off it will apparently look like leather!
He demonstrated adding a line round the halo using a pen attachment on a compass. Two lines close together and then carefully filled in. I was the only one to attempt that today and thankfully managed okay.
So pretty full on day. I came in and got dinner as Tina is out again tonight. I had a rough night, the pillow was comfortable enough but I was very restless and had to get up a couple of times during the night! So, thins evening is now a doing me nothing much time until I go to bed. A drama starts tonight of a book I am actually reading at the moment, so that will be interesting.

  1. The icon is coming on in leaps and bounds. There’s so much work that goes into it, but it should look great when it’s done. I’m really looking forward to seeing the end product, although it’ll be a few weeks yet. I think the red line round the halo came out really neatly. I bet you’re pleased you did it as it’s out the way now. The others will still have to do it 😊
I really hope you manage a bit better night tonight . Although I think you’ll need several to catch up with all the sleep you’ve lost lately.
    Enjoy the drama.
