Boot sale bargains and fairy house

Darren and I had our usual trip to the boot sale and market. A nice morning and plenty of stalls today. I got a great paper cutter, a little soapstone elephant and some pieces of wood, one big enough to make a sign for the fairy garden.
The piece of wood for the sign is bigger than those, that are coaster sized.
We came back and were soon off to the harvest lunch which was very tasty, it was chicken casserole with jacket potatoes, followed by apple pie and custard.
This afternoon I finished the fairy house and varnished it. The varnish will protect it but Inthink it ages it and makes it look better too.
I have caught up with Strictly this afternoon but have managed to do another sketch in the new book.
On a different note we had a pheasant in the garden this morning which was exciting and it returned for a while this evening.

Pies and boulder painting!

Yesterday evening I went to the garden centre open and evening with Tina. She got me a clock as an early Christmas present. I love my antique clock but it does have a very loud tick. I love this one too so I’ll keep the old one for decoration only for now.
As the trial pie turned out okay yesterday evening I decided to try and make the pastry for the pies for the harvest meal. Reasonably successful and big tins to roll out for. But the proof of the pudding will be in the eating!
I did do a bit of hoeing out the front, but think I am gardened out for now. Got the chuck of concrete that looks vaguely like a house in and cleaned it up a bit ready for panting.
Painted it white first, didn’t go right to the bottom as that will be in the ground!
Then started to make it a feature for the fairy garden, not finished yet, but on the way.
Yesterday in Beverley I bought a sketchbook in Paperchase. I think it may have actually been a scrapbook, but it was reduced and I plan to try and do a pencil sketch of some sort in it regularly, very day is the aim,but that probably won’t happen. Did make a start today though.
Went to a concert with Marjorie this evening featuring winners from the Hornsea music festival. Some very young musicians given a chance to perform without being judged. Some quite talented youngsters on violin and piano.

Bus trip to Beverley

I will try to keep this short, it is late, my legs are aching and I have a sore thumb as Incaught it earlier and ripped the nail back. Bit awkward as it has a plaster on and it is the one that I log into the iPad with!
A lovely day but the bus trip was a bit longer than anticipated due to a very long tail back because of road works, more stop than start for about twenty minutes. I went to shop today, not sightsee or sketch but took one pick of the town.
My main reason for the trip was to go to Lakeland and get some of the pie tins with holes to hopefully eliminate soggy bottoms! Did get them, and shoes and a hair gel I use so all good.

I did make a pie this evening as a tester and it turned out okay, making apple pies for the harvest meal tomorrow.
We got some pavers yesterday and  I went out to sink them into the front lawn to stand the pots on, as they are killing off areas with their weight. I used a permanent maker on the spade to try and get the depth right. They are in and hopefully just right for mowing over.
Pots back on now to help bed them in.
I made the pie as I said and then Tina and I went to an open evening at th garden centre. A preview look at the Christmas displays and a discount throughout the centre. One of the displays and one Tina took of me being sensible as usual!
A great moon when we came out, took it on two different settings and couldn’t decide so will post them both.

Garden and hair!

This morning I worked in the front garden, hoeing and generally tidying as I was waiting for the Ringtons man to call. A few people talked to me while I was working to say how good the garden is looking now. When the guy had been I took some stuff to the charity shop and then called in at the hairdressers, she said she could cut my hair in about an hour. I came home and had some lunch and then went over. She just does a dry cut but I am really pleased with the results. Got Tina to take a picture rather than try a selfie!
I then went out in the back garden, I was going to hoe the bed with the fruit bushes in but got sidetracked and started clearing an area near a fence. It had a creeping weed that was wrapped round everything, I have cleared a lot but will have to try and remove the roots.
When Tina got home we had a cuppa and then went to the garden centre. I wanted some garden scissors, I have never had or used them before but June, the volunteer, was using some on Tuesday. We also wanted some pavers and Tina spotted some lights that she thought would be good for the fairy garden.

Got my scissors.....

The little pink fold away secateurs were a present some years ago. The scissors are quite a weapon! I did a bit more in the garden then cleared away and did some watering this evening. Then I went down to see if the lights work.
How cute is that?
This evening I am watching the dvd I got at the boot sale, ‘Ridin’ the rails ‘ narrated and sung by Johnny Cash, it is absolutely brilliant.

Early start

This morning I got up early, made up a flask and set off to see the sunrise. Took this picture walking along the Main street.
It was too cloudy for it to be a spectacular sunrise but I enjoyed being by the sea early and having my coffee there.
I walked back through the memorial garden and spotted this ivy clad tree.
The rest of the day has been spent in the garden, about six hours. Taking out refreshment and loo breaks I probably worked for five of them. I had already hoed and weeded the large flower bed before I set about removing gourd plant leaves and tidying the lawn edge. The leaves are big and prickly, I created chaos for a while.
Looks a bit better now.
Tina is away so I got tea for Darren and myself and haven’t had much inclination to do anything else. Maybe tomorrow!

Garden and sea

This morning a couple of volunteers came to work on the garden. Bernard did some more weed sprayed not and then he got my sign ready to be put in place. Looks good now it has a neat flower bed to rest in.
There has been a lot of wind and it doesn’t seem like we are going to get much autumn colour this year, but one tree in the park that we can see from the garden is looking beautiful
I made teas and did some work in the garden. After they had gone I took a walk down to the see. The wind was catching the waves and I took so many photos, will post a few.
Spotted another roadwork machine, the town will be happy when the disruption stops!
Last night I had a play with the doodle effect cards.
I have been clearing and reducing another bed in the garden and will probably get on with working out there while the weather is good.

Bit of gardening for a change!

This morning I met with one of the HUGS volunteers for a coffee at the Crafty Cafe. We had a nice chat and got to know each other a bit better. The rest of th day I have been preparing a flower bed in the back garden to plant the heucheras in. I did take a photo, we have had it cut back but the weeds/plants have never actually been dug out.
Blue is a funny cat and not always the brightest creature. She was clinging in the tree above me, then she cries, had to catch her at one point as she slipped round a branh and was hanging like a monkey!
I spent about four hours orkong on the bed and even got the plants put in and some bulbs I dug up replanted.
This evening I am sticking the boot house onto a paving slab, as least it means the weights are getting some use!!

Sunday, Sunday!

Darren and I went off to Leberston today as he wanted to go to archery after and they are near each other. It was really cold, I almost ended up buying another hat! Not so many stalls there this week and it will soon be stopping for the winter months. I got some broken jewellery, with boxes in mind, but also an unused stencil book, a slate plaque with wrens on and a great Johnny Cash dvd. It has songs but he is telling the story of the railway.
I went for a short walk while Darren was at archery, still pretty cold but in a nice area.
We stopped for a cup of tea on the way back as Darren had got wet as well as cold when it started raining while he was at archery.
This afternoon I spent over an hour trying to get some more of the roots out of the bed near the bay tree.
I managed about another metre, got rained on and then was so close to the tree that it became difficult, or should a I say more difficult? I got some plants into the area over the last two days so it is taking shape.
I bronzed the latest box before I got dinner, pleased with this one.
Last part of Bodyguard tonight.
