Wet drive out...

It has been a truly miserable weather day, cold, wet and windy. This morning I went to the hairdressers twice, they have a pretty laid back approach to business and both times I went the lights were on but nobody was home! I did meet Sal as I was giving up and made an appointment for tomorrow.
I took the decision to bin the hordes of gourds that have been around the house since the autumn. I have kept about a dozen in the vain hope that I may actually dry one out successfully.
Sarah and David picked me up about midday, they were off for treatments in Keyingham and thought I might like a ride out to somewhere different. It is quite a way and it was a wet and twisty journey. We had some difficulty finding Mill Nurseries, no real signs and nothing to buy, just buildings. We had a bit of time before their appointments so we went into the village and had a very tasty snack at Sarah’s Pantry.
We were joking about the name, Sarah not being a cook, so when they were leaving I said I would walk to the nursery even though it was cold and raining quite hard. When they had gone I nipped back into the cafe and asked if I could buy one of the self named mugs. They did sell me one and I knew Sarah Would be amused to have one. Walking back I passed a strawberry nursery who were selling them in a shack with a loyalty box. They are picked daily and so cheap!

They were a pound a punnet of two pound for the pots with so called ‘jamming strawberries’, but they looked fine so I got a punnet for Sarah and a pot for us!
I walked past the mill on the way to meet them, made into a fabulous private residence now.

I am not sure if this stonework in their wall was part of the original masonry.
Either was it looked fantastic. After their treatments we had another soggy ride home, they dropped me near the shops so I bought meringues and cream and Darren and I have enjoyed Elton Mess this evening. Plenty left for Tina to have some too, she is in York for a meeting this evening.
The new head for the Gtech arrived as promised and is now fitted and working fine.
Quit a different sort of day.

  1. The weather has been terrible here too, so at least it’s not just you northerners who have suffered. I think the forecast said we had it for another few days, so you probably will too. Stay in and make furniture for the dolls house 😊
Shame the weather was so rough for your little trip out, but it looks as though you made the most of it. I really like the mill house. I’ve always fancied living in one myself, or a lighthouse! The stonework in the wall is obviously meant o be a mill stone, as it has the little channels etched in it for the flour to flow off the stone. The centre also looks worn as if a spindle was attached to it at some point. They certainly went to some trouble to make it. Looks good though.
I really fancy Elton mess now 😊

  2. It was certainly different and got bargain strawberries, so can’t be bad. I was damp and cold after my walk on the weather though.
Does look like no gardening for a couple of days and then ten times as many weeds!
