Little furniture!

Last night I cut out the plans and then the pieces to make a Tudor style table and benches. Spent most of the evening making them whilst listening to cassettes of Sherlock Holmes for the radio recorded back in the day,so to speak!

This morning I did some clearing at the side of the house, we have never really sorted out the side entrance or the walled garden properly. I made quit good headway before it rained and then we had a massive hail storm!
I went and got some salad stuff to make Tina and I a slightly healthier lunch today, mushroom omelettes. We had eggs that needed using so I also made a cake.

I should say that we love our Gtech hoover but the on/off switch has been playing up. I phoned the company, I bought it direct from them, it is just inside warranty and we will get a replacement part tomorrow, he changed the address etc and also asked where to leave it if I am out. Really excellent customer service. I also phoned Taylor Tree Care about removal of the stumps, he has been to look already and will send me a quote.

I needed a few things at the shop and went into the charity shop as they had a sign for a tombola in store, to tickets for a pound. Just bought two and won the  main prize! Tina will take it as a prize at an event on Friday!

I sat in the summer house use for a while this afternoon and took some very poor pictures but of birds.the very blurred lines one is just to show the robin at the peanut butter feeder. I will attempt improvements!

Jigsaw completed

Not a great deal to report today, yesterday and very good I was making good progress with the quite tricky jigsaw I got for Christmas. Got it started last weekend with Anya’s help. Firstly your u had to complete the crossword, actually Isobel helped with that too, and then you had to get n with the puzzle.

This morning Tina and I spent quite a while in the front garden trying to remove some of the wet that is growing through the gravel. Didn’t take pictures but we could see where we had been which is always encouraging. Then w borrowed Darren’s car and took several bags of garden waste to the tip as th brown bin is full to overflowing!

Darren and I went down to Chip and Gail’s to get fish and chips for out dinner, very tasty and very reasonably priced.

I did a bit more puzzle before walking down to visit Sarah who was having a sort out and wanted to see if any of her clothes from the attic would be of any use to me. Passed this lovely lemon coloured group of daffodils on my way there.

I thought they were unusual and very pretty and late as most of the daffs are long gone. I have come back with some clothes which just about fit so that should encourage me to keep the weight off!

I have finished the jigsaw now so will get it packed away this evening. When I had eighteen pieces left to go in I counted the gaps in the puzzle as I was convinced some bits were missing!

May try and make the pattern pieces for a Tudor table and benches this evening!

Boot sale day

Darren and I went along to the boot sale as usual. It was a bit drizzly early on but stayed dry and there were quite a lot of stalls. We had our br akfast and then had a good wander round. I bought something sensible which will help with the furniture making venture hopefully and a sign that made me smile, obviously silly weekend!

We also bought a pair of slightly rusty, but quite usable folding stools. Darren will have one in the man cave and I will find this one easier if I go out sketching again as the fishing stool I got is quite low and I have a job getting up from it!

I chatted with Tina for a while and we walked round the garden, once of the grasses is flowering and the birds have already started pecking at the new feeders which is great. This afternoon I sat in the dining room watching for a delivery man as I had ordered book, so spent a couple of hours doing crosswords and playing mahjong on the iPad! The book arrived just as I was preparing dinner, more ideas for the house.....

Have done a bit to the crossword jigsaw this evening and am now getting prepared to watch the final episode of Line of Duty.

Varied day

The weather has been very changeable today, hail, rain, warm sunshine and bitterly cold wind at times! This morning I went to the butchers, did call in the florist as well to see if they had dried Reed which has been suggested for dolls house embellishments. Got meat for the weekend, called in at the charity shop and managed to find some velvet cushion covers, one of which I can use for the clothing for the dolls house. Then I went to the sewing shop and got some narrow lace, also for th clothing. When I was there I saw a teatowel that made me laugh and got it at a reduced price. It will stay on my door, won’t be used for dishes!

I finshied off by going in the coop and then came home. Quick cuppa and then I caught the bus to the garden centre as I had some vouchers to spend. The bus was delayed for quite a while behind a tractor cum digger!

I spent the vouchers and got some nice stuff, also got some more things for feeding the birds.

One of the feeders was a jar of special peanut butter for birds! Also got another suet roll holder as the tits have been using the first one.

I haven’t done any gardening today and may give it a miss tomorrow as well as I have felt quite tired and achey. I have some plants ready for hanging baskets, so maybe on Monday. The acer in the walled garden is looking glorious in the sunshine.

I can make good Yorkshire puddings but haven’t had much success with toad in the hole. Recently I have been making individual ones which have been great.

This afternoon and evening I have been making my first piece of furniture for the Tudor dolls house, it is a settle and it still has to be stained! Pleased with my first attempt though.

Cute little pressies

Yesterday when we were at the garden centre I bought a really lovely little wishing well for the fairy garden, will put it outside tomorrow.

This morning I went to the Living Well meeting, a very interesting lady with brilliant technical knowledge gave a talk and then was helping people with problems who had brought along their own appliances. Had lunch with Tina and then caught the bus up to Freeport. I wanted to get some lollipop sticks and other bits to use when trying to build the Tudor furniture. Wasn’t too successful on that but did get some material to use as part of the Tudor clothing.

I walked home, pretty along the road up to the cemetery.

I went to Woods to try and get suitable wood, glue and wood stain, not to successful there either, I got some glue but had to order the stain and no suitable wood!

This evening I went to see Sarah and David for a bit and hear about their trip to Holland. We had a good natter and they bought me back these small gifts. A Tulip from Amsterdam tulip pen, no less!

Smile of the day!

This morning I got a belated birthday card from a very dear friend that made me laugh! Haven’t seen her in years but we. Had some good times together.

This morning it was time to see if we could dig out the copious tree shoots at the front of the garden by the wall, but firstly they needed trimming down. Tina did get one fair sized root out but to clear the whole patch would just be too much for us, so we will come up with a plan b.

While we were toiling we had a delivery of a great bench that someone was aiming to get rid of. It really seems in keeping with the house, would be pretty hot sitting out there though!

Tina was off today, had a hospital appointment later but she suggested we had lunch at Skirlaugh garden centre so that I could pop into the dolls house place to get some ideas. We had a great lunch there and got some plants. The lady in the dolls house shop was friendly, gave me an old magazine and I bought a suppliers catalogue, but she didn’t really have any hints about getting plans etc for making Tudor furniture. After that we went to Hobbycraft, never a good idea if you are trying to be careful with the spending! I did get some balsa wood and dowels and a few other bits, Tina got quite a few things too. Got this pack of two 500 piece jigsaws which should be fun to do and not too challenging!

My two second hand dolls house books arrived. I have got a few items I can try to make now.

The hospital appointments were running late and we stopped for a bite to eat on the way home, so it ended up being quite a long outing.

More garden and licensing service.

It is quite late and I am tired so won’t write too much tonight. We had had a small Hornsea apple tree for some weeks now, and as it is now flowering thought it was time to get it out of the pot and into the ground. Had just started digging when I took the before photo but managed to create a small bed and got it planted.

The walled garden has become even more messy since the rain so that was the next plan of action. I have only cleared one side but it is looking tidier already,

A few weeks ago I bought an obelisk at the boot fair for a couple of pound, unopened and needing assembling. I made it up today, more complicated that I had expected but now done and I added strings so that I could use it for the sweet peas.

This evening I went with Tina to the licensing of her friend Lyn who has helped out with services here at Hornsea. The service was at St Stephen’s Church, Newport and the refreshments after at the village hall. Took a picture in the church before it filled up, one of the sky when we came out, not too sharp as the sky was getting dark and one of Lyn cutting her ‘Welcome’ cake.

A really good turn out at the service to welcome her and it went without a hitch. Very nice spread afterwards as well. Quite late by the time we had driven hope but really pleased I went along.
