This morning I had the taxi booked for 6.45 am so was up early after going to bed quite late as Tina and I watched The Last Leg Elegtion Special!! Charlie spent some of the night on my bed, he is no trouble, just big and restricts my movements a bit.
It was a wet, grey day and a long time on the coach, over five and a half hours with just a thirty minute comfort break. I was struggling with the knee I have to admit, but the seat next to me was vacant so at least I could stretch my leg out a bit. The traffic into Chester was very bad but it was a race day, so the city was pretty lively!
A really fabulous city with lots of fantastic old buildings.
I made my way down to the river Dee and went under the arch of the city wall, took some pictures from the top on my way back.
I went on a thirty minute cruise, took a lot of pics but will just post a couple for now.
A couple of anglers had those tall tents and we passed several rowing clubs and there was a small regatta on today. I had a quick look in the Roman garden and then went up onto the wall for a bit.
Got a good look at the weir from up there.
The looked at the road but up to the city centre from the arch.
Had a good wander round the city streets, very busy, found my way to the ancient cathedral.
And along to the Victorian archway at the other end of the main street.
This guy playing an electric violin was great, you won't be surprised that I bought a copy of his cd.
It began to rain again as I made my way back to the coach, but it has stayed mostly dry while we were there. We only had a bit over three hours, so think I managed to see quite a bit. At the hotel now, relaxing and looking forward to dinner. Chatsworth and the RHS flower show tomorrow.
What a lovely place to visit. Some great buildings. My particular favourite is the Victorian archway. You were spoiled for choice with all the photo opportunities.
ReplyDeleteThose young ladies don't looked dressed for rain, so lucky for them it was mostly dry. Coats obviously aren't very fashionable!
No, not a bit surprised you bought his cd :-)
Hope you have a nice evening and manage to relax in readiness for a full, and hopefully dry day tomorrow. I have a sneaky suspicion there'll be a few pics of flowers on here tomorrow!
It was a long way to come for a few hours, but a fabulous city so well worth it in the end. The hotel is clean and quite modern, a Holiday Inn, but the food left a lot to be desired, which is a shame. As we arrived there were hundreds of people going the opposite way towards the race meeting! Some pretty glamorous outfits too.
ReplyDeleteThank you for my card I got it yesterday xxx
ReplyDeleteGave then to the guy on reception so glad he did actually get them into the post! xxx
