Last night we heard a lot of noise, Santa was making his way up the street!
Today I went on a trip to Mirfield with Tina, it is where she did her training and I stayed there a couple of times then. Today was just a day trip and it is about a two hour drive. It was a feast day so we were there in time for a short service before we had dinner with the monks. A very nice meal and lots of chat. Tina went off to study and meet up with folk in the afternoon so I spent some time in the art room. I was up a bit late and didn't get anything ready to take but the room is quite will equipped. There were some cones on the table so I just did a painting of them.
Then I found a poetry book and some sparkly pens and decided to copy some out. They weren't calligraphy pens but it was good to practice spacing and layout.
The walls are covered in colourful leaves and some were across the windows, I thought this made good picture material.
Looking out at the village as night was drawing in.
We went to another service and at this one Father Peter was singing so that was a treat, he has the most beautiful melodic voice which makes the chants just lovely. He came and spoke to me after the service as me remembered me staying there and he mentioned a paper knife I had sent him that Mike had made especially for me to give him. I waited in the entrance hall for Tina who had a meeting and had a nice chat with a new monk called Brother Mark. There are some beautiful new glass screens in the church and I managed a photo. not the best in the world but it will give an idea.
We set off at 7.30 pm and stopped at a Little Chef on the way home. We were in before 10 pm and it was a really enjoyable day.
Sounds like you had a good day. I know you always like to go to Mirfield and see the monks anyway. You even manage to cram in art and crafts on a day trip out, you are keen! Like the drawing of the cones though. I also love the photo of the leaves across the window. Specially the first one with the full window and the little art man on the chill. Looks like he's standing there looking out :-) Lovely colours and unusual view.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good day, like entering a different world, a very serene one. The sun came out briefly when I took that full window photo so the colours were brighter.
