Snowdrops and birds

World Thinking Day, plenty to think about today with the new roadmap out of lockdown announced. Bit onto other things. The snowdrops in the back garden are a little late this year, but we do have a good cluster of them. We also have a few in most of the beds in the front and back as I distributed quite a lot when I had mountains of bulbs that had been dug up!

I had a package to send off so went out fairly early today. I did walk up to the sea front for a sit down and drink as I need to have a rest before walking home. The knee is still making me limp a bit, but going to try different pain relief and see if it helps. A bit quieter on this rather grey Monday morning!

This afternoon I took my book, and the camera out to the summerhouse for an hour. Some photos from the garden, a few of the long tailed tits which are a delight to see come visiting.

The big bed is beginning to look pretty in the sunlight, there are a few snowdrops in that bed now and hopefully soon this year the English bluebells will appear.

I am glad I am managing to do a bit of gardening now, maybe this year I can keep it under better control!

Beautiful roses

Recently bouquets with roses in have often been a disappointment as the heads keel over really quickly. The lovely yellow, fair trade ones, that 

Tina got me a couple of days ago are stunning and all opening with their heads held high. They are in a position where I can see them when I sit in my rocking chair and they are a delight.

This morning I spent quite a while working in the front garden, the main bed with the sign in. A lot of weeds are appearing but clearing them was difficult as there are so many bulbs popping their noses above ground! Managed not to have too many casualties and of course some weeds still there. It looks tidier for being hoed, although I still have to get to the back of the bed.

Tina suggested going to Morrow Avenue car park and having a bit of a walk along the front. The car park was pretty full and plenty of people about, these photos aren’t as crowded as some of the places, we actually walked back along the roads rather that along the promenade.

I did get the sewing machine out for a while before getting dinner, did as much unpicking as sewing, I was trying to see  cotton that hadn’t worked with the free motion quilting before was at the wrong tension. After several attempts I have now decided that it is definitely the cotton so will thread up a different reel tomorrow, maybe!

Don’t throw the towel in just yet!

This morning when I endeavoured to walk down the stairs I had a new pain in the right knee which made the effort even more painful. I did think then, briefly, that I should throw in the towel, get a mobility scooter and be an invalid! After gong to the shops to get the usual weekend shopping I then decided to go into the front garden and today the bed in the corner where we had all the tree roots ground out. I thought if the leg was going to be painful I would give it something to feel painful for! I had a longer spell, cutting back and hoeing. Couldn’t hoe too well as I have planted lots of bulbs which are starting to come through, I did manage to clear plants away from the magnolia tree which was being swamped and it has quite a few buds this year.

A few people commented on the garden and told me I was doing a good job! Also a little boy said he wanted to have a go so I let him do a bit of hoeing with me! Then he stroked the cat so he was well happy. All good and I can still walk!

I have finished watching the box set of Watching this afternoon, a brilliant series, every episode made me laugh. I also tried one of the bias tape makers, just a short strip to get the idea. This was the biggest and which won’t be any good for quilt edges. But I have looked on line and you can get a bigger one.

Casualty tonight, always so cheerful!

Today is Love Your Pet Day. Didn’t love Pandora too much earlier, I was stroking her back feet, she growled, went for me and drew blood!,

More colouring, a Tapanuli Orangutan

The colouring book of endangered species has lovely illustrations and interesting facts. The Tapanuli orangutan was only discovered in 2017 and there are less than 800 of them left, the other two species are also endangered but the numbers are not quite so drastic. I haven’t finished this illustration yet but will post the two pics showing the progress so far. 

Quite a lot of solid colouring and it did give me a dead hand for a while!

Tina had ordered an electric room scent pot some months ago and it was delivered today. As she had waited so long for it she didn’t want to wait until a ‘special day’ to give it to me so I moved things around a bit and have it plugged in so that I can see it as well as smell it. I have had it switched on for a while now so the wax has melted and it is lit up and the house smells gorgeous.

I ordered a bias binding maker kit which arrived today. The instructions are minimal but ai have watched a video and may have a play tomorrow and see how I get on.

Not a lot of change in the leg pain but I am doing quite a lot of pedalling now in the hope that it will help.

Today is Confession Day, not sure about that one!

Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day!

Not really the weather for having ice cream for breakfast, although doesn’t sound like such a bad idea!

It was damp and chilly this morning so Tina suggested we try Mappleton again hopefully missing the good weather half termers! I made up a flask of hot chocolate and off we went. Plenty of space in the car park. No point walking down the slope as the tide was right in so we we’d it from the top.

We had a bit of a walk across to the church before we had out drinks. There were sheep in the field next to the church and they did a runner across the field after one look at me! One black faced one did stare at me for a bit before joining the others!

I did a bit of pedalling while watching a dvd when we got back then after lunch we went into the garden for a while. Tina wanted to burn the pile of sticks I had been collecting and I wanted to get the few plants in that we had had for a while. The bed before I worked on it and Tina trying to light the incinerator.

Tina did get the fire going and got all the twigs burnt and also did a lot of leaf clearing and moved the old bags of leaves so it was tidier. I managed to get the bed hoed again and the plants put it. Can’t hoe all of the beds as I have planted so many bulbs and some are just poking through, did have a couple of casualties.

Tina noticed that the wall along the side is bowing badly and may soon be an ex wall!

There are some big cracks, well, more like cavities as well!

Back indoors I had a lap friend for a while again, she was very comfy.

Tina had noticed that the daffodils she got me on Monday had died off very quickly so today she brought me in some lovely yellow roses. Sorted out the large vase ai painted butterflies on and they look beautiful.

Pop up lakes in the park!

When I was feeding the birds this morning I had to take a picture of this lovely dwarf iris. These were among the many bulbs I have planted and they are so pretty.

I wrote some letters and then went out to post them and for a bit of a walk. There are a lot of snowdrops in the garden now but these look particularly nice nestled in the aubretia.

I called into Heron stores and then posted my letters and then walked back via a trip round the park. The temporary lakes are very popular with the gulls and some great reflections today too, so no apology for quite a few photos.

The pavements are blocked off in a lot of places due to new internet lines being put in so my walk back was a little longer than planned. My right leg is now causing me to limp on occasions which isn’t good, but use it or lose it as they say!

Tina had a little time to spare this afternoon and suggested we have a quick trip to Mappleton. We hadn’t thought it through as the weather is better and it is half term! We nearly got hemmed in when we were trying to get away but there was som much traffic in a small place! So we just had a bit of a drive round and when we were back in Hornsea there was a traffic hold up so 

Tina took a narrow diversion. We stopped to look at the mere before we came home but didn’t leave the car!

Last night I finished the jigsaw, it was a nice one to do. I will pack it away tonight.

Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day, which should probably be the mantra for every day in these difficult times.

National Do a Grouch a Favour Day!

First of all you need to know a grouch and whether the favour cheers them up is anyone’s guess!

We had some gravy pots to return to the restaurant near the front so I took a walk down there today, at a much more leisurely pace as my right knee is still not playing ball! Went along to the cafe and had my usual hot chocolate and a rest!

Took a picture of some snowdrops in the front garden when I came home.

We have quite a lot not so far advanced in the back garden. My leg was pretty painful so watched a couple of episodes of Watching before lunch.

This afternoon I did some long overdue household cleaning so that was a workout! I have also been working on the jigsaw.

Tina made pancakes for tea which was nice.
