Seeing the sea at Mappleton and Hornsea

I will start today’s post with the picture of the bench cum planter that was given to us by the couple next door. 

Apart from going to the shop and general chores the morning was uneventful. After lunch Darren drove up to Mappleton so that we could see the sea there. It was very cold today so we wrapped up warmly. Couldn’t get a space in the car park so Darren dropped me off and went off to park near the church. A collection of photos including some of the fantastic rocks!

After dinner Tina suggested we go for a walk on the sea front. The tide was in and a storm was passing over!

Line of Duty in a while, should be exciting.

Happy Birthday Darren!

A quiet day but I think Darren has had a good day. Starting with birthday cake for breakfast set the mood for the day!

Tina went out and collected take away afternoon teas again so that was us set up with food for the rest of the day!

They were amazing again and the trays are useful afterwards!

I did walk down to the post office and sent off another package, have managed to sell quite a few bits, but not for a lot of money!

I have felt particularly tired and lacking energy today so had a pretty quiet afternoon! Pandora settled on me for a while, she is getting more of a lap cat these days.

The couple next door with the bar offered us a planter, they assembled it as a bench but it is big. Will take a photo tomorrow. While I was waiting for them to arrive I took some pictures of the tubs that I replanted last year.

When I out the fox food out I took a picture of the sky again, it is almost monochrome.

One of our pair of seagulls often natters at me when I am putting the fox food out and we have a bit of a conversation, here he/she is!

I went round to the church to help Tina set up for tomorrow, the light was shining through a small piece of stained glas and throwing light onto a notice board, quite a good effect!

The couple next door also gave up some out of date drinks that are fine but they are not allowed to sell. I am trying this orange flavoured ginger ale and it is really nice!

National Unicorn Day!

Unicorns, such a popular image now, easy to see the attraction and some lovely illustrations around,

Today has had a bit of variety, first think was to rescue a very pretty, small spider that had somehow found it’s way into a litter tray. I have never seen one like it before, hopefully it was happy outside!

Talking of spiders a lady went by with a fabulous spider brooch on today, she had stopped to talk to me while I was working on the step area at the top of the front garden. I did a fair bit of root digging but had so far only lifted five of the pavers!

Going to be a while before they have all been moved!

Made a cake for a certain birthday boy, he doesn’t often go on the blog so hopefully today won’t be an exception!

I got the standard daisy plant into the new planter, have it in the walled garden at the moment, may think of somewhere else.

Made a card as well, although I had painted the dragon a while ago.

I have an appointment for my second Covid jab on the 17th April, which is good, and of course on Monday I am at the hospital to see the surgeon.

Can’t finish today’s entry with out mentioning The Duke of Edinburgh, such sad news.

Burton Agnes gardens

Quite an active day today by my standards. I went out to post a couple of letters and Trent walk to the sea front before eight. It is still chilly but the bird baths weren’t frozen so not quite as icy! There was an off shore wind which makes the waves look like horses manes (well, to me anyway!) but difficult to catch with the phone! This was the best ai managed and then took one of the sky.

As Tina was off today she suggested we go to feed the ducks at the pond in Burton Agnes. They enjoyed their duck food and we even brought a little back as they had eaten enough. We did have quite a big bag full each!

We then went up to Burton Agnes Hall and gardens. The house wasn’t open but the extensive grounds were. I haven’t been in the grounds before, it is lovely and some great sculptures.

Loved these birds, would have loved to whisk them away to our lawn!

That circular structure on the water was actually moving slowly, thought I was imagining it at first.

Neither of us had seen new growth on a monkey puzzle tree before.

Now some sculptures.

Quite a few of the trees had been made into fairy houses, this one even had a swing!

The mosaics were interesting.

We stopped at Sigglesthorne garden centre on the way home, got a standard daisy type plant to go in the new pot, an everlasting sweet pea and a few veg plants. The flowers will be okay outside, have put the veg in the tomato greenhouse for now,

I sold a couple more bits on eBay so had another walk to the post office this afternoon! Tired by the time I got home so haven’t done a great deal since. Will end on a somewhat silly note, when I went out to put the fox food down I spotted this poo face!!

Metric System Day!

Oh dear, I am am imperial girl really, but do try! Still measure in inches and cook in lbs and ounces, can use metric if pushed though!

Very chilly again today with frozen bird baths again, I thought the wind had dropped first thing but it seemed to pick up again.

While I have been sorting I have been breaking down cardboard boxes and had a mountain of stuff so Tina and I took it up to the tip today and the went on to the Randa garden centre. Not a fancy place, some ramshackle greenhouses but lots of good stuff and plenty of healthy plants. I had wanted to get some veg plants but they won’t be in until next week. Did but quite a lot of perennials for the garden though, some were inside so I had to make space in the greenhouse and move some bird food around! Got two shrubs as well which will be fine outside and some compost and a great little planter!

I walked down to the post office before lunch, had to wait in a queue for about fifteen minutes which meant my non operation knee was really grumbling on the way home. Went straight home via a couple of shops. I watched a recorded program on the tv and then went off to the post office again as something else I had sold had been paid for. No queue this time so walked up to have a look at the sea.

It was pretty chilly and the sea was rough, but quite a few people around and sitting at picnic benches.

Not planning to do a lot this evening, I am sure I can find something to watch on the tv.

Tartan Day

When I went out to feed the birds early the bird baths were frozen over again, but a bit later I decided to go into the front garden today and start working round the paving slabs. Well, decided to lift them so that I could dig underneath. 

I only managed about up half an hour or so as it was bitterly cold, my hands were cold even though I was wearing thick gardening gloves. I removed three of the pavers and removed a lot of roots, but now it is a dug area!

I got the steps and started getting stuff down from the shelves in the top of a couple of cupboards. I had lots of framed collages and have started to dismantle them so that the frames can go to the boot sale. Found this lovely picture of me with my three children, very rare occurrence!

Tina had to take some papers to Skipsea and asked if I wanted to go along for the ride. We called in at Mr Moo’s on the way back and had an ice cream cone. As we were leaving it began to snow!

The wallflower type plant it getting even more colourful, I really love the variety of colours on one stem!

The wind has blown the chairs over in the garden, I stood them up once and they soon went over again. There was a snow flurry but it soon passed again.
