Feeling a bit off colour.

I haven’t really felt on top form today, nothing particular, felt a bit sick this morning and am a bit heady. I walked into Dunkeld after getting some ingredients for a cake in the local shop. More of that in a bit. I had been going to look in one of the shops that sells plants, but they didn’t have much choice and what they did have were overpriced. I had a drink before coming back. Took a couple of photos while out.

This table with benches, the biggest I have ever seen, was a new addition in St Ninians garden.
Back home a good part of the day was taken up with making a cake with some of Tina’s left over kefir. It was quite an involved recipe with lots of pretty unhealthy amounts of sugar, butter and chocolate! I used my colourful bowls for getting everything ready before I started.
While I was getting the cake mixed the plants I was expecting arrived, eight heathers in really lovely condition. I got them planted while the cake was cooking, four in the square bed and four in the area I prepared yesterday.

Took a photo of the lupin with raindrop while I was there!
The cake turned out pretty well, the first time I have made a cake in this oven.
That wasn’t the end of it though, the covering was melted chocolate, butter and water, and it took forever to reach a spreading consistency! Then extra chocolate decoration too! It does taste good but I won’t be in a hurry to make one again!

This evening I have been helping clean the brass candlesticks for church, don’t think they have seen polish in quite some time.
I am now sitting with my furry friend who is sleeping contentedly.

  1. Quite a varied and busy day then! You should have dug some more roots out as it would have been less work πŸ˜‚
I hope the sicky feeling has worn off during the day. There’s nothing worse than that.
You’ll be waiting for the next visit to a garden centre for your plants then. They do tend to be a bit cheaper. Shame, as it’s nice to support local shops, but there’s a limit.
Looks a bit grey out there this morning, but still nice in its own way. Wow, that really is a large table and bench’s for a large family or gathering!
Kefir is good for you, but extremely sour tasting, so wouldn’t be my first choice for putting in a cake! Looks like you had a lot of bowls and utensils out for one cake. You didn’t have as much when you did Christmas cakes πŸ˜‚ I have to say the finished item does look rather delicious and judging by your comment you couldn’t taste the kefir. It’s making me feel hungry looking at that!
You even managed to get a bit of gardening into the day. It’s definitely coming along nicely. Certainly looks better than it did.
You really know how to finish a day off. Cleaning brass! It’s actually quite a nice job in small doses because you see such a transformation. You need to wear rubber gloves though πŸ˜‚
Hopefully your furry friend will get enough sleep now so that she’s leaves you alone to sleep later.

  2. The sickly feeling has gone now, which is good.
The cake was not over sweet, which I imagine was the addition of the kefir as the recipe had high sugar and chocolate amounts. It would be quicker if you didn’t divide the mixture to get the marbled effect, and not bother to decorate it! πŸ˜‚
It was just starting to rain when I put the plants in so they got well watered.
Brass cleaning is okay in very small doses!
