Haven't taken many photos today, but I was thinking last night that I would photograph the wedges and explain them a bit. When I was told that the boot would have wedges I had visualised them under the sole and at different heights. I just hadn't thought of them being a stack actually inside the boot. The cast man numbered them but the opposite way to the way they were removed. The first one to come out was the biggest one at the bottom. I also measured them and in total they are almost two and a half inches, so I was pretty lop sided!
They are all out now as you can see, but I am still wearing the boot as I don't see the consultant until the 25th April.
This morning I put some beef in the slow cooker, a method that Hazel told me about. Not in water but a joint sat on top of a layer of vegetables and just a couple of stock pots. Then Darren and I set off to the boot sale. I managed to walk around for about an hour but was struggling a bit as the ground was very uneven and I have stopped using the crutches. It was very cold, so my first buy after out sandwich and cuppa was a hat! I got a book to take with me when I go to York as Isobel and I will enjoy trying to spot the meerkats! I also got a couple of great door hangers, one for Tina and one for me, but sadly our doors are really old and thick so don't actually fit!!
When we got home I got on with getting our Sunday lunch, the first time I have cooked a full roast meal since before the surgery. The beef cooked beautifully in the slow cooker, I will use that method again.
I was feeling pretty tired when I came upstairs, and just after I got up her Cool Runnings was about to start on the tv. One of my favourite films which makes me both laugh and at the end cry! Then I watched the Grand Prix which was a good race today. I will watch Maigret later.
The wedges aren't really what I expected either. But they seem to have done the trick, so that's good. It's clever how someone comes up with these things in the first place. You'll soon be bootless too.
ReplyDeleteI think the joint in the slow cooker is a great idea and will definitely try it myself. It looks like a nice bit of tender meat in the photo.
Maigret was good. I've never watched it before, so thanks for the recommendation.
It is clever the things they devise for a better recovery. They do seem to work well but I am not sorry the boot phase will soon be over! The meat was really tender and not all dried up at the edges either. Glad you enjoyed Maigret, I did too.
ReplyDeleteI hope you all enjoyed th beef cooked that way, much easier than he oven and a lot less mess. A Bacon joint comes out well, I usually buy Sainsburys basic joint as it so tender in the slow Cooke a lump about £3.20 or so would be plenty although it freezes well once sliced and cooked much. Nicer than packet ham and less costly.
ReplyDeleteFor got to say tablespoon of their own honey which is £1 a jar with a cup of water and hey presto you have the gammon joint cook on low or auto if your cooker has it.
ReplyDeleteAnother good tip. xxx
DeleteReally did enjoy the beef and will certainly try other joints, thanks for a great suggestion. xxx
