Today Tina took me to the station so I could catch the 8.40 am train. I was off to Peterborough for the day to visit Ruby and Emmie, the two 96 year olds that I have known for a long time. Ruby was looking very frail last time I saw her and she doesn't have many visitors so I wanted to send a bit of time with her. Mike picked me up at the station and drove me over to Eye, I was there for midday and he was collecting me at 5 pm to go for a meal before my train home just after 7 pm. I had lunch with the ladies and then sat with them in the 'knit and natter' group. I even knitted a square to be made into a little bunny, very clever, may have to try one at home. Went to Ibrahimi's with Mike, they were very friendly and especially good tonight. I commented to the owner that there was no trifle (their trifle is out of this world lovely) he said sorry and smiled. While we were eating he came to the table and said that there was trifle now, he had been into the kitchen and got them to get some out! Mike took me to the station, I was in good time, as it turned out, in very good time as the train was running about twenty minutes late. Not good news as my gap to change trains was twenty minutes! As I sat on the station a goods train was pulling out, I don't see that many goods trains, not that i go looking for them!
And took a picture of the station at night, had plenty of time on my hands....
The journey was livened up by a man getting really shirty with the ticket inspector. He hadn't got a ticket, wasn't going to pay because the train was late, insisting it was later than it was. After about ten minutes and the guard saying he would be met by the transport police at York if he didn't buy a ticket, he did but was then saying the guard was worse than the Mafia!! Made the journey seem shorter. But did miss my connection by a few minutes. Because there wasn't another train to Scarborough for over an hour they put on a taxi from York for three of us, one for Malton and two of us for Scarborough. I called Darren and Tina and said I would get a taxi home from the station as I couldn't give them an eta. Was home about 10.15 pm, so a long day and for some reason travelling is very tiring.I bought a chunk of burr, sorry Mike, can't remember which wood, when we went to Snainton. Mike has cut it into slices for me and sanded them, my intention is to mount painted ceramics on them to make personalised plaques as presents.
I will get some good quality varnish as they are too lovely to use cheap and cheerful stuff. Late now, bed is calling before too long.
IT was a long day for you, but worth it to spend some time with Ruby. She did look better today than the last time I saw her, so that was nice to see. Shame your train was late and that it messed your connection up, but it was good they laid on a taxi for you. It also gave you chance for a different photo opportunity. Pity you didn't get any of the near punch up, or better still some video :-)
ReplyDeleteIbrihimis was really nice this evening. The food is always good, and they're such nice people, but to get the trifle sorted out for us was above the call of duty! I'd recommend them to anyone.
I look forward to seeing the finished plaques. I'm sure a few coats of varnish will make quite a difference to them.
I am confident they will be lovely, thank you. It was good to see Ruby a little more like her old self, very frail, but more alert and chatty this time.
