Darren took me to the station this morning in good time for me to catch the coach for my 'National Holiday'. Lovely sunrise this morning, took this from the coach before we set off.

The driver was a geordie which was a good start and very friendly. He was bemused by the fact that we were first pick up and then he had Filey and Bridlington. We passed Scarborough station again at 9.20 am having set off at 8 am.A lovely drive on the Whitby road, beautiful sunshine then to help us enjoy the views. Then we went on to Guisborough for a comfort break, a most unlikely 'services' but it had loos and this basic watering hole!
We were then on our way to spend some time in Newcastle, it started to rain very hard for a while on that part of the journey but dried up again for us in the city. We passed the Angel of the North on the way, bit higher that in a car so did get a bit of a shot out of the window.
We had just over three hours in Newcastle and I did manage a fair bit of walking around. This was a very unusual statue.
I had a snack in a cafe linked to the Cathedral church of St. Mary. A lovely building, especially inside.

There was an interesting sculpture near the Life Centre.
There was a painting of the Tyne Bridge way up on the side of a building, which caught my eye.
I had a coffee near where we were being picked up and was very taken with the loo, they had decorated the whole room with an old atlas!

Might have to try that on a wall when we move! We came to the hotel, a Britannia and right by the airport terminal. Very comfortable room and a lovely evening meal, so all good so far. Off to Durham tomorrow.

  1. A great start to your trip, and some great pics too. Love the first one of the building, and bird, in the sunrise. A good way to kick off the photography. The inside and out of the church are really nice too, the inside one is well lit with the light streaming through. Sounds like an enjoyable day altogether.
Very odd sideways statue. I thought I'd was one of those people dressed up to start with. It isn't is it?
The map wallpapering is such a good idea. Simple but very effective. Not sure I'd want more than one wall done though.
Hope you manage to get another batch of good photos tomorrow. I can see you'll have to make a scrapbook of the trip.
    Have fun.

  2. No it was a statue! I think one wall of maps would be enough too. A scrapbook is a good idea, I do like making them.

  3. Well your trip sounds really interesting so far, well done on all the pics. How many in your group? Have you partnered with anyone. Or are there, several single people?
    Look forward to more. X

  4. Been to Durham today, very attractive city but very hilly! Only 18 on the coach, just one other single lady, we did eat together yesterday evening. x
