Mostly flowers and bees!

I went and did the food shopping before it got too busy and apart from meals and a Face Time with the family I have been in the garden most of the day. Spent the morning clearing the walled garden, didn’t take pictures as I hadn’t intended starting there. But once I started pulling weeds I just carried on. Almost filled that huge garden waste container. Darren brought me out a cuppa and I sat between two disinterested cats.

Then I moved to the back garden. The grass path I laid soon after we moved her has taken well and it helps that I now am much happier using the strimmer.

I weeded all along one side of the large bed in the back garden, and did dead heading and supporting some plants. Watered the front garden after a link up with the family. I don’t remember the mahonia having berries before.

The yucca flowers are stunning again.

And the sea holly gets more colourful by the day.

I managed to trip over the hose when I had finished watering and crashed down onto both knees! On the grass thankfully, but the I had the challenge of getting up! Don’t think I have caused any further damage.

First bus trip since ‘freedom day’.

I caught the bus into Hull today, not many of us on the bus and everyone was wearing a mask, so a good many people are taking things cautiously. Hull city council are installing cycle lanes everywhere and bus lanes are now buses only all of the time. This means most of the city is single lanes now, it is a busy place and it has been causing terrible congestion and lot of very unhappy drivers! I wanted a couple of bus timetables and some leave in conditioner so got those jobs out of the way first. Had a refreshment break and then tried to do some gift shopping. Not successfully but I enjoyed spending some leisurely time wandering around.

As I was heading back to the bus station I saw this sign, will be great when it opens.

Out of sync again, took a couple of photos in the garden before I caught the bus.

When I got home my veggie box had been delivered. I think if anything they are getting even better!

I went into the garden to dead head some flowers when I saw the subject for one of my most unlikely subjects! I don’t like slugs and this one was on one of the watering cans. Never really seen a face before!

Trying to do this with a cat n my lap so will finish here!

I love gannets!

This morning I went to Bempton Cliffs with Sarah and David. We were there just after 10 am and had to go in the overflow car park! The albatross is still in the area, it had been seen this morning but had flown out to sea. Plenty of birdwatchers there in the chance they caught a glimpse of it. We didn’t, but no worries, saw plenty of gannets which I think are majestic birds. Those pictures a bit later, the first one I took was of a crow, and quite what happened to the photograph I don’t know! It is weird, like I took it twice, but parts are in focus, any suggestions happily received. It was quite a small crow!

We had a drink before making our way to Eastfield garden centre where we had a look round and then had a light snack.

Pandora was happy to have me home!

This afternoon I sorted the paints out and went into the garden. Quite a while since I have tried any sketching. I did drop a pencil and later a brush when my hand went numb and Blue jogged the easel a couple of times, but at least I did put pencil to paper, so to speak!

I will go and do some watering when the sun goes down a bit.

Bag mountain and a woolly pig!

This morning I thought I would see just how many plastic bags had managed to be pushed out of the back of a drawer and into the cupboard below. I really thought I would never get them all, unbelievable!

Much more interesting is the picture of a woolly pig that Tina has seen in Orkney today!

Paul arrived today to start preparing the wall for the restoration. He had a lot of ivy to remove and free up the rotted panels and posts so that they can be removed and replaced. The wall has got worse and it was worrying to see him on top of it clearing the ivy!

My legs were really bad last night so I have had an easier day today but I did walk down to the post office to send off a parcel and then went up and had an ice cream sitting on a wall. It was quite busy, looking  more like a seaside town.

Not so many around in this direction.

Resting this evening as if it is a bit cooler I am going to Bempton cliffs with Sarah and David tomorrow.

Up at 4.45am to make sure Tina was up and about ready for her early start, being picked up at 5.45am. She got away okay and is now settled in Orkney.

I set off for a walk just after six, I had done a bottle of water to take and realised when I was nearing the sea that I had left it on the stairs! I ended up walking for almost an hour only stopping to take a few pictures en route. But when I was waiting with Tina I took a couple of pictures in the front garden. One of the sky and the other of the fabulous yucca flowers.

A bit later in the morning I walked down the street, posted a letter and got something for dinner and then collected a prescription for Tina.

I did go out into the front garden for a while to attack some of the weeds in the drive. Although I picked a shaded place I didn’t stay out overly long as it was very hot and sticky.

This afternoon I went round to see Lesley, we decided it was too hot to be weeding, so we sat in the shade in the perfect sized garden!

This evening I have watered both the gardens. Our pair of seagulls have a baby again and yesterday it was flapping its wings and jumping up. This evening he/she was flying in circles but as I was watering I could get the phone ready quick enough. It landed on a roof at the museum, you can see it if you squint!

I feel very protective of ‘our baby’, I expect it will join its parents when I am putting the bird food out soon.

The honeysuckle is in its second year and has flowered and they are fragrant.

We have had some strongly looking bulbs for three years but have never flowered previously. This year they are now opening and are stunning.

I feel surprisingly awake considering the early start. Although once I decided to write that I started yawning!
