Hello Peterborough again!

This morning I got some shopping, or should I say supplies, as Tina was bringing me down to Peterborough so that I can visit my sister again and to see the family. A cluster of autumn crocuses has appeared in the front garden surrounded by weeds and the dreaded ground elder!

We set off after lunch and I am sorry, couldn’t not take pics of the bridge today!

We checked into a hotel near Ferry Meadows and met up with family at the Granary restaurant where we had a lovely meal. Then Tina and I went for a walk towards the meadows, turning round when we got to the railway track.

Spotted the moon on the way back.

Not bad for having to hold the phone still for five seconds!

Relaxing in the room now, which is comfortable. Hospital visit tomorrow.

Bit of gardening

This morning I got a couple more boxes ready for the charity shop, Tina nd a folder to drop off so gave me a lift today. I did pop to the local shop as I got some flavoured bottled water on Saturday for our trip down to Peterborough at the weekend. They were really cheap, three for a pound, and really nice. Quite a long date on them so I went and bought a few more today.

Tina has a hard baked loaf that someone made for the harvest festival. She has asked me bout varnish as she wants to use it at a couple more services yet.

This afternoon I did go in the garden for a while, starting to get the beds winter ready, well, at least more winter ready than they usually are! The one wher the bird baths are needs a lot more attention, but definitely better than it was!

We had a brief thunder storm and downpour so no watering tonight.

While I was getting dinner I fed the Christmas cakes, turned them over this time as I usually feed top and bottom!

I am reading the first book in the Vera series, quite a chunky novel, now over a third of the way through and Vera hasn’t appeared yet!

Off to make a cuppa now.

Bus to Beverley

As the bus pass arrived at the weekend I decided to catch one into Beverley. I need to do a bit more walking so decided to try and walk through the town and over the railway to Flemingate. Not really that far, but a a decent stretch for the knees. Took a few photos, even another puffin as there was one near the Art and Soul shop.

I had to st at the barrier by the railway on the way back.

Came home on the bus, pretty hot again today, so haven’t done a great deal more. Watered a few plants and filled the cans and picked these two fab tomatoes, the only ones on the plant!

I will finish with a very blurred photo taken from the bus. It really is a bad photo but the large while areas were lots of geese!

If only ………..

Darren and I both stayed at Rachel’s last night. I was up long before anyone and had a wander round Rachel’s garden. It is my perfect idea of how I would like my garden to be. Quite small, nice lawn and lots of planters and tubs so not too much digging or bending! Oh well, c’est la vie!

Rachel has worked really hard on it since we went into Covid restrictions and not only has great flowers but has grown several veg as well.

Had a quick coffee with Anya this morning and after lunch Darren and I picked up my niece, Rose and went off to visit her mum again. Good visit and then Darren drove us home. Fairly uneventful journey but the sun was blazing in the side I was sitting so a little too warm!

Feeling pretty tired tonight, getting a bit long in the tooth for all this gadding about!

A very good piece of news though is my bus pass has arrived a week after it was ordered. Consider that week away a bank holiday and a postal strike that is pretty good going.

Wonder if I will feel up to a tr put tomorrow now!

Nearly forgot to post my last picture. Rachel brought this car back from her trip to America and it is beautiful and folds felt to fit in the envelope, she thought I could try it as another new craft!

Off to make a drink and maybe read for a bit now.

On the move again!

Have come down with Darren to Peterborough today,  Darren was visiting his dad and I went to see my sister in hospital before we left I had a short walk and went into the very large park behind our house.

I didn’t take any pictures of the bridge today, just enjoyed looking at it!

Rachel is looking after a very cute and sociable tortoise so had to have a picture of him!

Anya sent me a great picture of something I would love to see in our garden.

We went to Ibrahimis for dinner this evening. I was so pleased that they had there gorgeous trifle on the menu tonight!

Not a lot to report!

I visited Bel as usual this morning, she was in good form and we did a bit of a jigsaw together. She has started a 1500 piece one.

I went with Tina to Lidl at Beverley to get supplies for the harvest festival and then we had a bit of lunch. Then Tina took me to Jeans as she wa going to see Terry her husband. Jen told me bout the wedding she went to last week, it looked lovely from the pictures.

I used the watering cans to give the vulnerable plants a water this evening and then went to the church to see if ai could help with anything as they were getting set up for the horticultural show. Angela was there so we had a bit of a chat which spews good as I haven’t seen her for a while.

That’s about it, I just took a picture of the sky when I was watering, quite dramatic but sadly no rain!

Garden and insects

I did go along the road early to post letters and again to collect prescriptions from the chemist, they were still closed when I went out to catch the post.

that I have been in and out of the garden, pretty hot in the sun again. Will start with another photo that Mike has played with to improve it, I only ever post ones as they are taken.

He is very good at getting the best out of them!

The first job this morning was finding homes for all the stuff I moved and cleaned yesterday. Some was to go to the greenhouse but we have a large store cupboard on the patio and I cleaned that out and stored things more methodically. After that I decided it was time to attack the greenhouse, I moved a lot of the bird food but still have some in there, and I have had three neglected tomato plants on the go but plan to start using it as a greenhouse again now. That’s the plan anyway! The bond weed had invaded and it was a mess!

It was so hot in there, have had the window and door closed as the squirrels were causing havoc. Have left the window open a bit now as I don’t go in there to get the bird food now so they may leave it alone. Fingers crossed on that one. Before I put the after pics I will post one of hover flies on a dandelion as it came out quite well.

The sunflowers are great this year, I got the mixed smaller ones not the giant, but they are tall and healthy. The trouble is they are so close to the greenhouse so it is difficult to photograph them! I love the lemon yellow one and took the first photo through the greenhouse roof, the other one I stood on the concrete as you go into the greenhouse so I could get closer!

Now the after shots, a bit more workable now!

After lunch I decided to get started on tidying the beds, I have been pretty negligent this summer! The one in front of the summer house was pretty weedy so started there. May not seem a lot but had a good amount in the garden cart to get rid of!

I have done some watering with cans this evening, and hoping the rain won’t miss us again!
