National Virtual Vacation Day!

When I go out to feed the birds in the morning the pigeons l a dozen or more, are waiting on the lawn for me, the blackbirds are waiting in the wings and the two seagulls are swearing at me from the roof! There are sometimes some do the tits already flitting about as well and the wood pigeons are in the trees, not to mention the squirrels in waiting for the nuts! Today I heard an different call, a quack, and a pair of mallard ducks wandered onto the lawn! I didn’t have the phone with me but managed to get one of them on camera a bit later when he had wandered into the rough area near the apple tree.

Well, this celebratory day could have been thought up for a world in a pandemic!

This morning ai went into the front garden with the intention of making the way to the garden bin easier to access by hoeing the tops off the unwanted plants and weeds.

I made a start and then decided that the triffids needed digging out, not just chopping back, this is the one area of the front garden which has never received any proper attention. The triffids have big roots and send out runners.

The cart is full of roots and the garden bin is now full. I did of course also have to dig up the usual boulder, I always end up finding boulders!!

I was out quite a while and the sun had come round by the time I had finished for today, but looking a bit different now!

As we can now meet another household in a garden Sarah and 

David came round for an hour this afternoon. I cleaned the table and chairs and got them onto the lawn. When I went to get the gate open I saw that an honesty plant had already flowered down the sheltered side of the house.

Other signs of better weather, a butterfly and ladybirds.

Arty sky shots!

This morning I had some cards to post and a friends birthday present so set off for the post office fairly early. I had been gong to try and walk a bit further today but my right knee was pretty painful so went and had a look at the see and enjoyed a hot chocolate! The sun was bright but behind clouds, took a couple of pictures and can’t choose so will post them both!

I took this one in the memorial gardens as the small tree in blossom caught my eye straight away.

I walked along to Countdown on the way back, bought a few plants but really went to get a tub of fat balls for the birds. Although it was windy it was also very warm out and I was really weary by the time I got indoors. Did a crossword for a bit and then started sorting through my clothes. After lunch I went into the front garden and hoes the back of the large bed with the sign in, also carried on as far as the rockery. Spent about an hour and was then even more weary! I went out into the summer house for a while, just took a drink and my book, didn’t take the good camera out this time. At one point ai had one cat on my lap and the other one was in the second chair!

Tina came out to join me for a bit which meant Blue had to move. The next photo gives the impression that we have a pair of happy ‘sisters’, a reminder that not everything as it appears!

Took a picture of a lovely pansy and the large flower bed, so happy with the garden this year!

I came back indoors and carried on going through the clothes. In case you think I am exaggerating this is what I have to sort through in the spare room and I have a lot more sorting to do yet!

I suggested we go down to the front to have fish and chips before Hornsea gets even busier. Darren and Tina managed to secure a picnic table that was well away from anybody else but I don’t think we will be doing it again for quite some time. Took one photo as it was a clear sky this evening.

Tina and I really love this plant which we think is in the wallflower family but the different colours of flowers on the stems is just delightful!

Have been going through a couple more boxes this evening, it really is a never ending story! Will pack up soon as the final part of Unforgotten is on in half an hour.

Short entry on Eat an Eskimo Pie Day!

Nothing much to report today. Have been doing more sorting on and off, getting to me a bit as I still have loads of stuff to go through. How nice it would be to have a minimalistic mentality with no hobbies!

The first Grand Prix of the season turned out to be an exciting one, should be a very competitive year.

I walked down to put an envelope in someone’s house this evening and took some pictures for the blog.

Hopefully I will do something other than sorting tomorrow!

National Scribble Day!

Should have started scribbling away at that book I have always been going to write! But this morning I did the usual shopping, found out that the veggie shop is closing today which is quite sad. Then I went into the garden after the grocery delivery had arrived as I had some plants to get in. Three rhubarb roots that Tina had ordered so first area was where the fruit bushes are. I was just going to hoe but in the end dug a few of the more vigorous weeds up and hoed the rest. Didn’t take a before photo  but took one when I finished. When we were still able to go to boot sales I bought some large wooden plant markers so used them to remind me where the rhubarb is!

Tina also ordered some plants for shade that can also cope with drought! There was a bit more work there than intended as well as the back of the main bed is getting quite weedy, just deep hoeing this time though.

I have spent a good while still going through my stuff, stopped to watch the Grand Prix qualifying and then to get dinner. By eight I was feeling a bit heady, doing all this sorting seems to be more tiring than the gardening! I am late with the blog as Pandora settle on me and stayed for over an hour, didn’t want to disturb her be trying to reach the iPad!

The good part is that this pile of containers that are now empty all had stuff in them!

More of the same tomorrow, it could take weeks!

National Hug a Ghost Day!

These celebratory days get weirder and weirder! It is fun checking them out every day!

Nothing much to report today, apart from nipping to the shop I have been sorting through my belongings. Tome to really be serious and not just move things around a get rid of a couple of little bits. So, it is more boot sale stuff and more attempts to sell some bits on eBay! Been filling up the bins as well and breaking down boxes to get to the tip. So, a different sort of tiring day, but so far I have six empty storage containers, not big ones, but getting there!

No photos during the day but a nice stormy looking sky earlier this evening,

The hyacinths are open in the garden now and looking good.

Best get back to it now so that I can actually get to the bed later!

International Procrastination Day

Don’t need a special day for that one!

This morning Sarah and David came round to the walled garden so that Tina could take a video of David talking about his voluntary work. That went very well and they went home happy. 

Tina and I had a short trip to Beverley this morning, we went to The Refill Shop and had a look round. It was remarkably quiet for Beverley on a sunny day!

There were lots of spaces in the little car park that is near the town centre, so that was a bonus too. I took a couple of pictures of interesting window displays, not open shops of course although hopefully they are all gearing up for trading again soon.

We had a take away sandwich and cuppa, while we were sat on a bench enjoying them Sal And Carol came up behind us, that was good as I was able to say that ai would like a haircut when they reopen, I will just have to test them to arrange it. We came home then as Tina had an online meeting to go to this afternoon.

Before we went out the Ringtons man had been so we stocked up as he isn’t calling for a month now, one of the specials was a tea cup and saucer planter. I have seen them in ceramics before but these were terracotta so for indoor or outdoor use. Really attractive and only £10. I have seen the ceramic ones at £25 or more.

This afternoon I decanted some of the mealworms and peanuts for the birds into containers, have a fairly good supply in at the moment, 

The extra bonsai soil arrived today so I spent a couple of hours getting the rest of the trees pruned and repotted. They are looking pretty good at the moment and just budding.

Have had a bath this evening and Pandora came in for her shower as usual. She is a funny little girl!

Not sure what the weather is going to be like tomorrow but ai have a few more plants to find homes for and the weeds are appearing at quite a rate now,

International Day For Achievers

Well, getting a bit long in the tooth to do a lot of achieving, but a very positive sort of day.

I was actually feeling a bit achy but decided to take the walk towards Honeysuckle Farm. As I set out I didn’t think I would even make it to the bench but kept going and the aching eased a bit. Only took one picture of blossom on the way out.

I kept on, passing the bench where I rest and set off up the hill and passed the large house called the cottage. I managed to get to the third telegraph pole this time, views either way from that point show how countrified it is!

The next shot was the view from one of the gates I passed on the way back to the bench.

A couple more pictures before I got back to that bench for a much appreciated sit down!

After lunch I got the rest of the plants that I had into the gardens, that is until some more Tina had ordered turned up! Then I planted the very tiny plug bedding plants into slightly bigger pots!

Tina had also ordered a paving slab made completely out of recycled materials. Quite big and attractive and just right for standing on to fill the bird feeders!

Apart from a few household chores I haven’t done much else, some crossword puzzles of course, got to keep the brain active as well as the legs!

A really good obscure word to finish with today. Very descriptive!
