Bus to Withernsea and my printed Christmas card!

I decided to catch the bus to Withernsea today so went to the shop early to make sure there was stuff in the house for Tina’s lunch. There is a solitary red rose in the front garden, a little bedraggled but a lovely colour.

The bus journey to Withernsea is over an hour, it detours off course to pick up from two holiday parks. For over half of the journey I was the only person on the bus!

I wandered along the Main Street after looking at the sea and even going onto the beach for a few minutes. A selection of photos, makes a change from Hornsea.

The bus journey home was good again, I did have lunch, lovely fish and chips before heading back. There were four of us on the bus to start but everyone else got out after about ten minutes, so all to myself again. When I got home my printed Christmas card had arrived, I am pleased with it. If you get a card from me look at it and then forget it!!

I bought some material in Withersea and some I ordered arrived today as well, so have washed it all and will be making some more masks.

Will go and see Sarah and David for a while this evening, best go while I am still allowed to!

Boot sale and fighting ducks!

Darren took me to the boot sale again this week. A lovely morning although the wind was chilly, the field was quite muddy so some areas didn’t have stalls set out on them. Took a picture of the sky as we arrived.

We did snap up some bargains, mor of that in a bit. Darren drove home via the sea so that I could have a look, and take pics, before we came home! Left the cap in the car this time so that I didn’t end up chasing it down the promenade again!

We saw a nice heated aired, umbrella variety, which will be very useful as we don’t have a drier. Darren set the legs correctly and made sure it worked when we got home.

I spotted this trophy which I thought would be good for the next horticultural show. Quite a good quality one and just a little tlc needed.

My bargain of the day was a nice selection of audio books.

I started listening to The Beiderbecke Affair while I finished the jigsaw puzzle.

We watched the Grand Prix, well done Lewis! Then Tina and I got some of the duck food (we have a sack full) and thought we would go to Hornsea mere. It was closed! So Tina drove us to a pond at Burton Agnes and the ducks were hungry and very pleased to see us!

Just as we were preparing to leave a couple of mallard drakes that had been chasing each other and grabbing tails began a quite ferocious fight with beaks locked. I have cropped these pictures which ai had to find out how to do on the iPad, they really weren’t happy!

We think one of them was protecting his lady, but it was quite a spectacle!

A few days ago I bought a picnic basket because the cats have been fighting over a waste paper basket which is woven. The new one has got a bar across the middle but should be accessible. But of course, cats being cats no interest shown in it. I had put it downstairs near the other one but yesterday moved it up into my sitting room fairly near where Pandora sometimes curls up. And, leaving it out of the way Pandora decided to give it a try!

I went shopping first thing and then I took a walk to the sea front. I managed to get there without using my walking stick. I did sit down and have a drink before I walked home. Two of the photos look dark but that is because I was taking them into the sun.

I called in a couple of shops on the way home and have taken it pretty easy since then. In the garden this afternoon, I went to puts some peanuts for the bird into the greenhouse, I took a picture of the opening large pampas.

And also a bit of autumn colour in the beech tree.

Got some lovely stickers through the post today from my sister in law. Will finish with them.

Bus to Beverley and sunset at Mappleton

It was raining again this morning so not the right weather for bulb planting. As I am trying to keep up a bit more walking I took the but to Beverley, I signed up for a Lakeland card last time ai was in and the cars arrived yesterday with some money off vouchers. So a good reason to go there and a look round the antique centre is always good. It had stopped raining when I got there which was good and I took the walking stick but managed without it which was a bonus. I liked the display in this shop window, a great use of playing cards!

This display was outside a hairdressers and not a florists, very attractive.

I got a great book in the Oxfam shop, have started reading it already and it is very interesting.

At Lakeland I got some stuff that will be useful when decorating the Christmas cakes

I had a drink in the antique centre and didn’t buy anything for me but did get some earrings for Tina.

I caught the bus home and read a bit of the book and did a couple of puzzles in a magazine. When I went out to put the fox food out I noticed the fungi are growing well!

Tina drove us up to Mappleton this evening as it looked like it would be a good sunset. She took a picture unbeknown to me when we arrived.

An impressive nativity set

Tina went to see a nativity set at the URC yesterday and is going to borrow it. They have had it stacked away in the cellar for some time and don’t put it out at Christmas. Tina is having a stable made that will go outside with a protective Perspex to protect it, so that it will be seen even if restrictions mean it won’t be able to be viewed in the church. Margaret dropped it off to us yesterday in a huge polystyrene box and it was dusty and covered in bits from the box! So this morning I got them all out and put them on the kitchen table to give them a dust and wash.

Excitement for me today when my very large u shaped pillow arrived. I had ordered a cover for it and that was like a workout actually getting it onto the pillow! Gave it a try and I am hopeful that it will help, called Tina to take a picture! It looks really strange under the covers and will be fun settling myself into it, but definitely worth a try!

I got the nativity set up in the dining room and then we could take measurements for the stable. I think it is a pretty good set myself and would cost a fortune to get one like it.

I did go to the sh this afternoon, and then did a couple of puzzles in my book. It had stopped raining but it had rained for most of the night and morning so the ground would be too wet for bulb planting. 

Yesterday i cut some of the small pampas grasses as I left it to late last year and they were ruined.

When I went out to feed the foxes I took a picture of the large pampas which has one shoot just starting to open.

Tina bought a large clip top plastic container when she was out this afternoon so I have wrapped the figures and stored them on that for now.

I have used the leg exerciser a bit the last couple of days, will try to do it regularly but won’t make any promises!

Pink clouds in the sky this morning and another very nice day to follow. The weather this week has been nothing like the forecast, best make the most of it!

I went to the shop fairly early while it is quieter and took some photos in the front garden. A whole lot of Michaelmas daisies, more fungi and some lovely golden chrysanthemums just opening.

I did gather some bulbs together ready for planting, but the rested my legs and finished reading Them Thursday Murder Club, which was very entertaining, very clever and funny. After lunch I thought that trying to keep up some walking was better than stooping putting bulbs in, will do them eventually, so set of with walking stick off towards the sea. Not a rough sea today, nice skies though and some work going on to the paths next to the sand.

Quite a lot of folk around enjoying some late summer sun. I was aching pretty well when I got home but that has settled down now, so hopefully I can continue getting out a bit while we are still allowed to! Tomorrow we have deliveries arriving so maybe it will be a b job planting day unless the rain arrives,
