Best laid plans

It has been a bitty day today, but have kept reasonably occupied. I went to the banking hub this morning and called in at Boyes on the way home and bought some cheap material to make into trousers. I sat in my sitting room to do a crossword and was enjoying watching the nets blowing.
After that I cleaned  around my bathroom window, which doesn’t shut properly and had plenty of cobwebs and general muck around it. I needed the steps which is a poor excuse for letting it get so bad!
After lunch I took fabric scissors, pins etc downstairs to start cutting out the trousers. I started by cutting the pattern sheets, then realised they were double sided! The instructions said that you should trace them onto pattern paper, should have read that before I started! Buying large sheets of pattern paper should probably be expensive so have ordered a different pattern instead!
The outsides of the kitchen window and the bay in the downstairs sitting room were looking very grubby, not the windows themselves but the surrounds. As they are next to be made into working windows I spent some time cleaning want I could reach.
I had a wander round the garden so some more pics, never short of things to photograph in the garden.
Lovely double poppies have just opened by the greenhouse.
The calendulas are in full bloom.
The daisies tract the thunder bugs!
This odd plant that I thought was a sort of corn isn’t opening, the other stems are dying off.
The hollyhocks are inflower.
And the tiny alliums are turning red now.
Will be going out to water the gardens soon so will finish with the news that the amaryllis that was green despite being left for moths has started to get larger now that is has had a drink. I wonder if it will get a flower again.

Congratulations Rosie

We did go to the boot sale but not that enjoyable today as the thunder bugs were out in force and they adored the bright yellow tee shirt I was wearing!
I bought half a dozen geraniums to go in the garden, will try to get cracking out there this week, weather depending! I went to the shop for some lunch bits and took a few of the cheese scones to Sher as she didn’t get to the jazz evening. After lunch it was time for me to get over to the bus stop to get on the minibus with a few other folk to go to Bridlington for Rosies priesting ordination. The priory church in Bridlington was a lovely venue for the service and it was take by the Lord Archbishop of York.
I had taken my camera but couldn’t take any photos outside the church as we had to make our wu back to the minibus.
There was a reception in the parish hall that lots of people stayed for. Hattie had made vegan cakes and a nice spread was laid on by the parish hall cafe staff.
Tina presented Hattie with flowers and a gift for Rosie.
It was a lovely relaxed reception.
Then we all went into our church to attend Rosie’s first communion service. Lovely music and a joyful occasion.
I am tired, I am sure Rosie and Tina are exhausted!

Jazz evening at the museum

A couple of weeks ago I cleaned round a clematis which had amazingly survived. I have made sure it has been watered since and it has flourished.
Not much to report today, did see Sher briefly and then cooked some cheese scones to take with me to the museum, Lao bought some nibbles and an apple drink.
Will post a few photos, the band were very good. The selfie is with Catherine who had invited me, she wa the guest of honour.
That is Ron, who had organised the evening.
That’s it, off to bed.

Where is the rain?

I did water the garden last night as well as the bonsai trees. I haven’t watered in the front for a while, so maybe tonight. Took some photos in the garden. This large daisy plant had just one bloom a couple of years ago and a handful last year, but now is awash with open daisies and  lots of buds.
I planted some iris bulbs earlier this year and they are opening now.
This cordiline was quite a small plant in a pot when we got it home in the car years ago. It is huge now and has lots of flower branches, it had one stem last year which I was thrilled with. It is a massive plant now.
The large tree in the park that overhangs our garden isn’t in good shape and this large branch is now in our garden!
When I was sorting yesterday evening I found this amaryllis, the pot was bone dry, it has been there probably over a year but it had green shoots! So it is now watered and in the light, fingers crossed.
I had enough from yesterdays sorting to take another trolley load along to the charity shop!
A couple more garden photos. The poppies are flourishing.
And this fabulous bud opens into a spiky yellow daisy, but the buds are so attractive.
The window guys finished Tina’s window and the downstairs loo and were on their way before 2pm. They have booked the Air B&B again for another three nights the week after next to come and sort the rest of the windows downstairs. They have done a fantastic job and left everything Spock and span.
I may just take a couple of cans into the front garden and water the bonsais tonight,

Old masters? I wish!

Yesterday evening when I watered the garden I took a photo of the abundance of sea holly blooms.
This morning the guys arrived bright and early and covered art in Tina’s office and set to.
I had to ask what these were, being a bit ignorant of these things and found they are weights that make the sash windows work!
I went up to the garden bin and the large plant up there is flowering.
We have sone book cases on the landing and mostly filled with yet more of my stuff! This isn’t all of it.
A lot more sketches and some that I did at a class, one you can see in that pile of stuff. So I will post three quite different pieces.
I am going to get out in the garden in a bit, my even pull out a few weeds before I water!

More opening windows!

I went to post some letters yesterday evening and the sky was lovely, or the clouds were really.
The men were back early as usual and got on with window work.
They got started on the main bathroom straight away.
They finished off in my sitting room so that has made me happy again.
My mood plummeted after lunch but the less said about this parking the better!
I left the guys for half n hour and went to Number Nine, Sher’s shop. Sher wasn’t in but Haley was and she made me a cuppa.
Walking back I took a photo of these flowers hanging over the churchyard wall.
I have been carrying on with the sorting and clearing, I had all the drawers of these chests out and relabled some of them. I am working on ‘A place for everything and everything in its placed.’ I am a very long way from that!
The men have finished upstairs now, just hd to repair the door in the spare room.
Darren was going to be late home and Tina was going out so I went down for fish and chips and timed it perfectly, arriving just after Darren got in.
I will stir myself to get out and water the garden this evening.

Earrings and windows!

I knew I would be in today and not in my own rooms so I gathered together the earrings and pins, in a muddle is putting it mildly, and also got together my cards top for writing to friends so that I had plenty to be getting on with.
I started spreading the earrings over the table and trying to match ones that had lost their partners!
They started working on Darren and Tina’s bedroom window today.
Lots of pairs hung on the main stand, I don’t need to use the other one now.
I had taken card, scissors and a pin down and got all the pairs I am not keeping carded up to take to the charity shop.
I always struggle with keeping the pairs of earrings that have bars and don’t hang in order, so I have marked them up in a few boxes.
My bedroom window is finished, Chris, the boss guy said he would demonstrate opening it as it needed a bit of a knack.
I added a few more pins to my unwearable waistcoat so they weren’t loose getting lost!
I nipped the carded earrings and some trinket boxes across to the charity shop. This plant is in the front garden, it did have green foliage but looks pretty now is dying off.
Took a couple of pics of men at work as I came back down the drive!
I cleaned the secondary glazing for my sitting room before it goes back up.
I did get three short letters written before cooking dinner and had my window demonstration, so roll on bedtime!
I have lost the impetus for gardening, have been so focused on decluttering, but I did go out and water the bonsai trees. Maybe the mood will take me tomorrow!
