Hull again then sorting and a bit of crafting,

Sarah and David gave me a lift into town again this morning as I had the continuing saga of the train tickets to sort out! We had a coffee when we arrived and then I set off to the station. After more failed efforts and a chat with a member of staff and then finding another code on the email I ended up with one e-ticket and one act auk ticket! Anya said to take a screen shot as I was worried that my mobile data doesn’t work on the trains so I wouldn’t be able to show them the e-ticket, but, photo shot success and the ticket is now in my photo gallery! The bus was late leaving as a man had no change and he was a very helpful driver, so was almost midday when I got home having left at 8.45 am! I only went to the station, the joys of using public transport when you live in Hornsea!
We didn’t have any photos or still this morning as the batteries were dead! They were new in too. We went down this afternoon and set the camera up in the daylight to maybe catch some squirrels or other wildlife. We haven’t checked it so hopefully we will have daylight and night footage tomorrow. Although I am off fairly early but might just get a glimpse before I go.
Took this photo while we were out in the garden, pleased with this one and then another of the honesty seeds which are beginning to shed their outer leaves.

My bedroom was getting more and more cluttered, now I am not using it as a bedroom less reason to ke on top of the chaos. I have written a couple of letters and started to varnish the box I finished yesterday. I did spend over. Half an hour trying to locate the new tin of varnish, one of the reasons for needing to tidy up.
Tina went out with a friend for a while this afternoon and bought me back some more things to play with.
Had a little play with the calligraphy, had the thought that I could write the poem in wavy lines to reflect the theme!
Going on a train tomorrow, the first time in about six months.

Boot sale and more cakes

This morning ai collected the memory card from the camera, there was a lot of activity but most of the footage was blank due to low battery. There were a couple of brief glimpses of the foxes in the early ones. Obviously there is enough power in daylight so caught two blackbirds for a change!
I am not sure if Pandora senses that Blue has been poorly but they seem to be more tolerant of each other particularly Pandora as she usually boxes
Blues ears when they have sniffed each other for a few seconds! This morning before we went out I let the cats out, they were actually sitting almost together on the pavers outside the front door, by the time I had grabbed the phone Blue had moved a bit.
We set off for the boot sale just after 7.30 am, a nice morning and it was quite busy again. We enjoyed our breakfast and set off, I didn’t manage the full circuit as I was struggling a bit but enjoyed what I did see. I went and had another drink while Darren carried on, he came back with a little milk bottle full of sweet peas. He had Tina in mind but she really doesn’t like the smell, so I have Gaines some very pretty flowers and my room is scented!
I did buy a few bits, we always find something,
I took a photo of a great trailer.
When we got home I mixed and got a couple more cakes into the oven, I had weighed most things up last night. They are cooled and packed away now, so just one more to make this year.
I took the steps out to try and prop up the remaining sunflowers, the two largest ones were snapped in the wind,.

Managed to get a reasonable photo of the tiniest little bug on the veg plants,
I haven’t been able to get suet logs for one of my bird feeders since lock down began, so I have started buying suet blocks and cutting them up, they do break a lot but they work and the birds eat them all every day.
I got the cut outs from Mike yesterday and I started painting a box last night, I used a tester pot of Java Bean, a dark brown. I used it with another colour on the top and today have painted the pieces antique gold. I will varnish the box but maybe not tomorrow. I have to go to town again to try and get my tickets printed for my trip to Peterborough.

Late cake making!

The garden camera is now set up to take stills as well as videos as I mentioned yesterday. We changed the position of the camera, not a great deal of activity but one reasonable one of a single fox and one of the two crossing the screen a way off.

We have set it in a different position tonight.
I bought ingredients for the delayed Christmas cake making on Thursday. I had forgotten the butter so got that when I did the early weekend shop this morning. It took such a long time, lining the tins is a job on its own, but I got everything weighed out and sorted before I begun, I have been known to be putting the mixture into the tin when I remember I have forgotten something! So, have made the first two, they smell and look fine, and a few additions of brandy over the next couple of months should make them up to usual standard! Sadly not so many folk will be tasting them this year.......
This afternoon I went for a ride to Cherry Lane garden centre with Tina, she had seen an email about adjustable side tables. No tables but we did get some hedgehog food for the foxes! Also got some suet blocks for the birds and a very cute cow which was reduced drastically!
Perfect timing because the peacock ornament we got when first here has been slowly fouling apart for some time now and this morning made its way to the bin!!
This evening before and after tea I measured out the ingredients for another two cakes so it is all in containers ready for making tomorrow. Have also lined the tins so it shouldn’t take too long to get them into the oven when we are back from the boot sale.
We went down to move the camera and put the food out. Took a picture of this plant beginning to open up. It did have two stems but the wind broke the other one. Quite a lot of damage to the plants during the latest gales.
Mike went me some great decorations for a box, they arrived today, he designed and then cut them on his new machine. I have placed them on this box just to show them off, they won’t be staying on that one as it isn’t right for them, I have started painting another box so there may be an update tomorrow.
Have watched the last Casualty to be screened for a while. Back to the puzzle book I think!

Temporary new role!

Tina has set the  night camera so that it takes stills as well as videos. The camera is at the bottom of the garden now but the foxes appear down there and search out leftover bird food, we still don’t know where they are coming into the garden of leaving it, we have change the viewpoint again tonight and see what that shows. I will add three stills, not great but still interesting.

This morning I did an hour working on the large bed in the front garden, the wind was so strong I was nearly blown over a couple of times and the garden cart took off down to the house! Didn’t take any pictures. I removed some dead poppies and did save some seeds.
Blue was limping this morning so Tina took her to the vet at lunch time, she has a bite that has become infected. She had antibiotic and pain killing injections and Tina has medicine to start using on Saturday.
After lunch we went across to the church, I was acting as second verger at a funeral, and then helped to clean the church after the service. Two verges are needed at the moment to ensure that social distancing measures are followed.
When we were out putting food down for the foxes and adjusting the camera I took a photo of the eerie looking sun!
I have been practicing writing out a poem this evening, not great, the pen started to run out half way through and my hand was complaining, but happy with it as a first attempt.
Will probably watch a Vera this evening,

Off to Beverley

This morning Tina and ai set off quite early to drive to Beverley. We were going to visit The Refill Jar, we have had several deliveries from them but thought it would be good to go in person. The journey went really well and Tina found a small car park that was pretty near where we wanted to be. We had to wait outside the shop for a good while and once inside it is a slow process which made my legs really ache, but that was no fault of the lovely guy, who was working on his own and having to weigh lots of stuff for everybody!
I had taken lots of containers as after thinking long and hard even having Darren say ‘give it a miss this year’ when I mentioned I was late with making
Christmas cakes! In the end I slimmed the list down and will make five. The containers came in handy!
We walked down Well Lane and Tina noticed the eels on the pavement!
We found a nice cafe to have a drink and cake and had the upstairs to ourselves to start with. One other couple came up there before we left!
We went to the antique centre where I have bought a couple of spider things twice before, from the same cabinet. So went to the same cabinet and it had two spider pieces in today! The brooch was a bit blingy but the pendant was similar to the huge one I bought there some time ago and was only £5. In another cabinet I spotted a pair of silver and marcasite earrings, very reasonable, so bought them as well!
We went back to the car and then off to Morrison’s. We had lunch there, very well organised and they were doing the 50% off all week! We then shopped and I got the rest of the ingredients for the cakes.
Very hot and we were both tired when we got back. So not a lot of activity since. I have put out food for the foxes, we had the camera in a different place last night and one of the foxes seemed to be hoovering up the bird pellets, so have sprinkled a few more of those around as well!

Garden, Freeport and surprise bouquet

I will do the photos in reverse today as I want the bouquet to be the one that comes up as the image of the day. Tina came in with the lovely flowers this afternoon, they were made up by a local florist. Had to use two jugs to display them.
I went out into the garden planning to do an hour or so again. A hollyhock has appeared in the bed where I feed the birds, only one flower open at the moment but so pleased to see it!
The Michaelmas daisies are flowering. I went to St Michael’s primary school and we used to wear them on out lapels when we walked to the church on St Michael’s day.
In the front garden we have WHF I call ice plants, they have been green but are now beginning to turn pink!
I decided to try and clear the weeds next to the summer house again, I pulled as many as I could and then tried to hoe deeply under the rest.

I picked a few tomatoes to finish off ripening indoors, they look good.
I caught the bus up to Freeport this afternoon, got some bits at the around Stretcher and had a panini and cuppa in the coffee shop, they were doing the half price thing, so very reasonable.
This evening I went round to see Sarah and David and we watched a film, Driving Lessons, it was funny and enjoyable. Have been out to put food down for the foxes since I came home.

Quiet day, lovely evening sea

Today I haven’t done a great deal, I did go to the shop this morning and did some household chores and some ironing. My new puzzle book arrived so did a couple of competitions. I am determined to do them and actually get them sent off as I often didn’t!
This afternoon I spent an hour in the parish hall with Tina, we were measuring room sizes and then working out how many people could be accommodated allowing for social distancing. Since then Tina has done some very impressive plans!
I started to paint a small box after that, it will need a second coat and then I will decide how to decorate it.
I went out into the garden to put food out for the foxes earlier and did a bit of deadheading of flowers. The cosmos is looking pretty and the sea holly is still striking even though the heads have now died!
Tina has to pop round to the church and took a brilliant picture, mentioning that she thought it had been a nice sunset.
How cool is that, she said the cloud looked pink when she took it. That led us to have a drive down to the sea front. A very pretty sky tonight so a few pics.

When we got back we moved the camera so it will be interesting to see what is on it tomorrow.
