Beverley trip

Pandora is becoming a bit of a lap cat, I was sitting in my bed this morning with my cuppa and she joined me there, she stayed for getting on for an hour and then thankfully left without prompting as she really growls at me if I suggest it is time to move!

A couple of chores and then some puzzling before Carol, my hairdresser, picked me up for a trip to Beverley. It was raining but that didn’t dampen our spirits! We walked pretty much all of the main streets and visited a couple of clothes shops and all of the charity shops! We did stop for a coffee and just got to know a bit about each other. I loved this sign in one of the charity shops, very original way to get the message across!

I think it might have been in that shop that I bought this wooden hippo to give to a friend.

We called in a couple of garden centres on the way home. We had another drink in one of them and just a browse in the second, but didn’t go nee any plants!

When I got home my veggie box had arrived, really pleased with it again.

There has been a lot of rain today but hoping it will let up a bit tomorrow so that I can get a bit done in the garden.

Such a good idea!

I have oodles of stuff for a car boot and stuff maybe for the auction house. We talk about getting on with shifting the stuff but don’t get around to it. Two local groups, the WI and Men in Sheds have come up with a brilliant idea. I have already registered our address!

Let’s hope there is a big take up and lots of people are touring the town looking for bargains, and that it is a sunny day!

The Ringtons man came nice and early and after Tina had sorted out a problem with the iPad data with a long phone call we set off to the garden centre with shops in Skirlaugh. We had a naughty full English breakfast and then went for a look round. The little antique centre is alway interesting and I got a couple of real bargains at £2 each, they were on a charity stall too. The wren said it was from USSR but we found no evidence of that, the silver tray caught my eye because the swirling pattern made it seem like it was moving .

Tina got some nice butter knives so she has quite a supply now. 

We had a little while indoors before Tina went off for her haircut then I did a couple of chores while she was out. I also wrote another letter, and had written one first thing. I love using the desk but both times my hand only just held out long enough for me to finish,

When Tina was back we drove down to the leisure centre so that the car could be put on charge. We went into the new cafe at the leisure centre for a drink and then had a look at the sea. What a difference from yesterday, grey and winters looking this afternoon.

The rain came in but ai did walk down the road to post the letters.

I have used the pedal gadget this evening, I haven’t been using it much lately and I do think it was helping when I used it regularly.

Tina went into Hull to have her second Covid jab this evening, hopefully she won’t have a bad reaction.

Sea and more sea!

I have had a busy and quite interesting day. I had a doctors appointment at 8.50am, very well spaced out at the surgery, only four of us in the waiting room. I was a bit late going in to see the doctor but he didn’t hurry and was very thorough. He looked at my hands, had me doing lots of exercises and tested the strength. He is not convinced that it is carpel tunnel, I think he has an idea that it is something to do with the nervous system. I am going for blood tests next week and he has sent off a request for me to have hands, feet and neck xrays! A couple of weeks after the xrays I have to make an appointment for another telephone consultation as he said he won’t need to actually see me again. Meanwhile he has prescribed some stronger anti inflammatories. It was a lovely morning so I walked up to see the sea.

The sun was really glinting on the sea, not always easy to catch on a photo, but ai didn’t do too badly today.

I walked past the house and went up to the hairdressers but they weren’t open. They are a bit hit and miss with the opening times. I phoned them a little later and arranged to go and have my hair cut at 2 pm. Before that I spent a bit over an hour at the church helping to get people seated for a funeral. There were forty different ‘bubbles’ of people and getting everybody seated and social distanced was quite a task, although Tina had given up very clear plans. Then. I was off for the haircut. I suggested that Carol and I go for a coffee sometime and she jumped at the idea and wanted to plan it straight away, so we are going to Beverley on Friday, that should be fun.
Tina dropped me off at the physio lady as she want to go and put the car on charge. She couldn’t at that time as both charging units were in use. My session was quite good, she demonstrated just how hard I need to be using the massage balls, I haven’t been doing any good at all! I walked home and Tina went in, she had managed to get the car charging by then,

After tea I walked down to the leisure centre with Tina to collect the car and we drove to Mappleton. A lot of photos and we did go down to the beach, a beautiful evening. The first one shows that there was rain over the sea in the distance. No more explantation for quite a few photos.

Tina is off tomorrow, has a hair appointment at 2pm but we may pot out in the morning if the weather is good.

What’s under the bonnet?

Tina has the electric car now and ai have been wondering about what is under the bonnet as no engine as such! Today she opened it up and there was not all the spare space I had imagined there would be!

Good news in a way, although I could still feel some pain in my ankle, more like bruising but there was no bruise, but I could weight bear and get about reasonably well. So I did go out in the front garden for getting on for an hour and was mainly hoeing and tidying the bed along all of one side. I will do the other side another day,

Tina had a bit of free time for lunch and we went up to Freeport. Had a light lunch and went in the Pound Stretcher and a shoe shop.

This afternoon I set up the machine to sew the design I got onto material yesterday. I struggled to start with, think I had the bobbin in wrong and actually bent a needle, so now know how to replace it! Then it just wouldn’t stitch, checked I had threaded it right and changed the settings, then realised the thread was catching on the plastic circle that holds the cotton reel in place. There was a tiny piece of the plastic that kept catching the thread. Sorted that out and tried again. I struggled a bit trying to follow the curves, but hopefully practice will improve my efforts. I had thought ai would be using different colours but that idea soon vanished!

Have watched the final of All That Glitters this evening which was good and afterwards noticed that the sky was pretty over the shops opposite.

Doctors appointment in the morning, then helping Tina at lunch time. Seeing the physio/chiropractor in the afternoon as well.

Decrepit body stops play!

A short entry today, I had planned to be in the garden and keep generally busy but my body had other ideas. A shame as it was a perfect day for gardening! Before nine when I was doing some household chores something gave in my right ankle and I couldn’t weight bear! Very inconvenient, when the initial pain subsided I managed to get upstairs, took pills and put on an ankle support. I am now able to walk slowly and carefully but am still aware there is a problem. Just as well I didn’t feel like doing the exercises this morning as I would have convinced myself they were doing me more harm than good. I thought I would write some letters at my lovely desk but only managed one and the carpel tunnel meant my hand was numb!  It would be funny if you were watching it on the tv. It is funny in fact and I managed to drop the ink cartridge from the pen and it blotted the letter I had written, so much for using fountain pens....

Anyway, I have spent a good part of the day finishing the Mummy jigsaw, it was quite tricky but fun and well worth the £1 I paid for it.

The other night I drew a simple design in my nice new blue book to transfer onto some plain material and practice with the machine.

I have transferred it now so maybe tomorrow I will have a go at sewing it. 

Going to take a slow walk to Sarah and David’s this evening, used to visit them regularly before Covid. Luckily they live just down the road.

Small but good boot sale

The rain held off and Darren took me off to the boot sale quite early this morning. Not so busy or as many sellers today but we did get some bits and pieces. I bought some plants and an unusual jigsaw and a smaller cake container that was just 50p. We got a note book each that has graphed pages.

We were finished early today so we drove down to the sea and had a drink there.

I spent over an hour in the front garden and get quite a few of the plants in and then finished the weeding in the large bed with the sign in.

This afternoon I started on the Mummy jigsaw, quite tricky and Darren helped me finish off the edges.

I carried on for a while before I got on with dinner,

As you can see Pandora came and joined in the fun!

Feeling very weary this evening, an early night I think.

First project finished!

This morning Pandora landed on my lap for a while, she is becoming more of a lap cat the longer we have her.

I went to the shop early, did a couple of household chores when I got home and then helped when the shopping delivery arrived. Then out to the garden where I got most of the plants into the ground. I took a photo of the bed in front of the summer house as I hoed it again after I had added some more plants. There is a standard daisy like plant at the back which will be good to look at.

I walked up to the hairdressers and made an appointment and had a chat with Sal as they are having a lot of problems with their teenage daughter. We may see them at the boot sale in the morning, weather permitting,

After lunch I got started on making the piece of quilting I had done into a suction cover. I made the back with an opening in the middle. It turned out pretty well.

Then of course I had to make a hexagonal shaped cushion to go inside! Job done and I will keep this first finished article made with the new machine!

Tina ordered some edging for the fairy garden and a couple of extra pavers made from recycled tyres. I have put the pavers out near the summer house, may get around to getting the edging in place tomorrow.

We will go to the boot sale if it is not raining, we do enjoy our trips there.
