I was up quite early and tidied up the dining room, including taking a very large, unwanted curtain pole to the charity shop. Then I set off to Sharon’s house to practice cutting glass. Her studio is on the third floor so quite a lot of stairs and she has a great studio place up there. I wasn’t getting the cutting right to start with and was feeling a bit despondent but then a change of bench height and a different cutter I started to get on better. After straight cuts, and then some curved on plain glass Sharon then sorted out some coloured pieces for me to work on. I managed to cut blue for the water and some different coloured rocks and then she showed me how to use the grinder and I smoothed the off. So I was feeling a bit more positive about the workshop tomorrow.
Before I left Sharon asked me if I would like to see her orangery as they think it is the only one I the town. It was under some disrepair when they bought the house four years ago and they are trying to bring it up to scratch.Monday, 1 September 2025
Ups and downs
When I got home I had received a message from Jude about the workshop letting me know that anything I had cut couldn’t be used tomorrow as she buys a specific make of glass that works well in the kiln. Sharon works on stained glass and can use any glass. That was a bit of a disappointment as I had thought I was well on the way for my piece tomorrow and now I will have to try and cut everything. I have booked two sessions though so maybe won’t finish until next week.
After lunch I went to see Sarah and David and they have a lovely group of autumn crocuses in their garden.Had dinner with Darren and put the garden bin out. Will watch the second part of the true life drama ‘I fought the law’ harrowing but very good.
We did have a shower today so no watering again which is a bonus.

You do get some jobs. I bet people thought you were a flag bearer who'd lost their flag on the way to the charity shop 🙂
ReplyDeleteGlass cutting isn't easy on large pieces, so I think you did very well on pieces that small. As with most things it's just practice. You'll soon become confident at it with a little bit of time.
I love the orangery. You'd definitely have to water that though. I see she lines up the cans like you 🙂
You certainly could have done without the message when you got home. It is understandable about the different glasses though. At least you've had some practice cutting and grinding, so as you say, if it takes the two workshops then it does. I'm really looking forward to seeing the end product.
Enjoy your drama and no watering....yayyy 🙂
I enjoyed the cutting and meeting Sharon, even liked her crazy dog who scratched my arm and made it bleed!
ReplyDeleteIt was a disappointment not being able to use my efforts from today but I will do my best to get some pieces cut tomorrow.
I did get a few odd looks when I made my way to the charity shop, but I do when I am dragging the loaded car along too.
The drama is good so will settle down for it soon.
