Well, where to start, quite a day today. I thought I heard a knock on the door about 6.30 am but decided I had imagined it, but when the tapping happened again a few minutes later I realised it was a knock and Tina was there saying we had been burgled in the night and the police were on their way and she thought I might want to be around. Somehow, none of us had locked the front door and an opportunist thief had picked the right night! They had only stolen from the ground floor, but ipad, phone, laptops, ornamental swords, Tina's handbag and both sets of car keys were gone. Darren's car was still on the street but Tina's was gone. Darren started off for work but had to turn round as he had his spare car key in his pocket (he has a works van now). The police advised getting in touch with his insurance to see about getting his locks changed, therefore he had to return his key. A very pleasant policeman arrived and was here about three hours, came in a big van!
Then the CSI came, which made it all seem a bit like a tv drama!!
I took all the stuff to make the sandwiches for 'Not Home Alone' into the front room so that I could keep an eye on Darren's car while I did it, as the keys were with the thief. His car has now been collected to have the locks changed, going to be at least two weeks, so at the moment the house is car less. Although Tina should get a courtesy car soon. Martyn, the vicar and his wife Joyce came by with flowers and wine to see if Tina and I were okay. Tina has the wine and I have some very nice flowers.
The culprit had turned off the phone but had not turned off the ipad, so the police were able to track it down and have recovered a lot of the stuff but not returned it yet as the police will fingerprint. Her handbag was found a few doors down in someone else's dustbin and some stuff just on the ground. That has been returned. The church are going to pay for a new front door lock for peace of mind. I did head off to town around lunchtime, managed to change the jacket from yesterday and called in at the sewing shop who thought I had done a pretty good job with the quilt. Tina went off for a meeting and I have seen the lock man. We have a temporary one at the moment, he will come tomorrow evening to fit the mew one. Darren isn't home yet and won't be doing his paperwork when he gets here as his work computer isn't home yet. No news yet about the car, I will keep you posted!
I'm glad some of the stuff is back and you're all OK. It must have been very unsettling! X
