Bug hotel building

I was going to get some bulbs in this morning but it was cold and rainy so I thought I would do a bit to the bug hotel. I bought the large leaves a long time ago and they have never been put up, so seemed like a good idea to use them. I will still be able to get things behind them but they will keep things from falling out!
I also cleared up an area next to the back door which had become a bit of a dumping ground, removing a dead mouse from the corner, Blue rushed in but I had already removed it!
This afternoon I walked up to Ellie’s house as I was going for a catch up and to see her very impressive craft room. We had a very pleasant afternoon and I have borrowed some different dies and a nice stamp.her husband fetched me home when he ret urned from his bowls match.
Scrabble group tomorrow, it is all go this week!

Another coffee table?

Darren and I had our usual trip to the boot sale and market. I was doing pretty good lol today until we came to the last couple of stalls. The triangular table caught my eye, I even haggled a little bit which I never do, getting it for £10 instead of £12. It actually open and the guy said it was musical, but the mechanism isn’t working. That really didn’t matter as I didn’t even realise you could lift the lid so it was a bonus. At the market I stocked up at the snack stall and the bakery stall had chicken and mushroom pies today so we had them for tea. We have tried to buy them several times before and hadn’t got them.
When we got home a caught up with Strictly and Casualty before going out into the garden. We bought some leaf bags when we went to the garden centre and there are a lot of leaves to be cleared so that was the mission today. I particularly wants to clear the beds at the  back so that I can tidy plants and put in bulbs.
I ended up filling all eight bags, a lot of raking and hoeing and stooping! This picture of six of the bags shows the mountain of leaves that need bagging near the incinerator!
I did have a cup of tea in the summer house before I came in to get on with dinner. I enjoyed clearing the leaves which probably confirms that I am weird!
Strictly results in a bit and then the penguins.

Fantastic Evelyn Glennie

This morning I went to the table top sale in the town hall as I had seen driftwood Christmas decorations ther with Anya and Isobel last week. I bought the one that had caught Isobel’s eye last week.
I met Marjorie and wwe went into a coffee morning where I saw some of the people from the Living Well project again. Came home and planted a few small bulbs in the rockery and then got ready to go into Hull on the bus. There is an impressive reindeer outside St Stephens shopping centre.
I did a bit of shopping and had lunch at Debenhams then made my away along to the Hull Truck theatre wher Evelyn Glennie was appearing with a Scottish jazz group called Trio HLK. They play very ‘different’ and very loud music which is not easy listening, all very good musicians but an acquired taste I think. Evelyn though was absolutely brilliant.
As you can see I had a very good view of her and despite the noise rally enjoyed the concert. Several people did not return for the second half. I did buy a cd which may not get played much, if at all, but it is signed by Evelyn so had to be had. I walked back to the station and took another photo of the reindeer as it was dark by then.
Hull had got a lot of remembrance stuff around too, I liked these imag S on one of the empty units at the station.
Had a coffee as I had over an hour before I got the bus home. Bit weary now but it was well worth it.

What a cute little cow bargain!

Yesterday at the charity shop I noticed this cute little cow cream jug with teapots on! The jug is just about four inches tall.

The teapots are actually tiny spoons and the whole lot was 99p.
This morning I went along to a talk at the Living Well group, it was about depression and anxiety and was very interesting and a very good speaker. I came home and had lunch with Tina then went over the road to see if I could book a haircut. Carol did it for me today after she had finished painting her nails! Great cut again and they are so friendly. Took a walk down to the post office and then went up to the sea front and had a cup of hot chocolate. Quite chilly today and very grey.
On the way back I could her the sparrows chittering as usual, they are so cute.
When I got home I went out to check the wooden plank with the hooks, it was still up so have now hung the fork and spade up and so far so good. They do seem quite heavy to me!
No gardening today, maybe tomorrow......

Coffee morning and outhouse sorting.

This morning I went along to a coffee morning at the URC church to meet up with some people from the Living Well group. I will hopefully end up doing some volunteering with them. I will go along to the meeting tomorrow to get a feel of how things work.
Back home, after lunch, I decided to sort out the brick outhouse which was a rgood also mess. Firstly I attached some hooks to a piece of wood to stick (fingers crossed) to the wall.
I w not out and was about to take a ‘before ‘ picture when I dropped the camera and it jammed! Thought I had taken one with this but it seems I haven’t, which is a bit of a shame. Spoke to Mike who looked up a ‘fix’ and it worked, but I had already been sorting by then. So and ‘after’ picture with nothing to compare it to.
I found some large red hooks which I screwed into the struts under the shelf. The wood with the hooks has stayed up but I haven’t hung anything too heavy on it yet so that it has time to cure. I did do some leaf clearing and hoeing in the back garden but didn’t chance taking the camera out and dropping it again.i moved the animal ormaments into the outhouse for winter sqf keeping.
Had dinner with Darren as Tina is out for the day. He is off out to a club now and I am watching It Takes Two!

Well, I tried!

This morning I did a bit more tidying in the front garden and moved the animal ornaments from the back garden to the empty bed out front.
I had a late flowering gladioli and today it had been knocked down by the wind. I brought it indoors and have it with a fe other blooms that I had in the lovely glass vase I got at the boot sale a couple of weeks ago.
The HUGS group gathered in the front farden this afternoon and Tina handed over the money raised at the quiz night. I ended up being official photographer!
The art straws arrive today, and as I had made a cone in readiness this morning I made a start.
Went downstairs then as the sky was pretty spectacular.
After dinner I carried on with the art straw tree. Have now decided this is not the craft for me!

Not very stable and couldn’t get the top right. I have tried again now and will leave it at that!

Crafty day

Today I have been to a craft class this morning learning to make a tree decoration from art straws. I did finish th basic tree but am now t too pleased with the result, not very even and a bit too open. The actual course was not as enjoyable as I had hoped as it was a group of ladies who obviously attend classes there together regularly. But, I have learnt a new technique and have ordered some art straws to have another go, so watch this space!
I had a lovely lunch with Tina and then walked up to Rita’s house for the monthly craft meeting. She is an amazing lady who actually built her bungalow and did pretty much all the furniture and fixtures inside as well. A very talented lady. I did some stamping before I went and took tha new pens and some fine liners to do some colouring.
So, a gardening free day, but have almost done my 10,000 steps now! Holby tonight, might be a tense one!
