Sketching and gardening

I got my rucksack ready and set off to Dunkeld to do a sketch this morning, I called in at a coffee shop that Tina and I had been to to see if they did take away drinks. They did so I had a chai latte to take with me. I had taken water colours but spent quite a while on the pen sketch and decided it was okay a it was, and I was getting s bit chilly anyway!

I took a couple of photos on the way back, after I had bought some sausage rolls for lunch!

Just as we were having lunch the post lady arrived and there was a package for me, it was quite small but had some flowers on a box and a little posh jar to put them in. They were from Anya, by the front of the tv now so that I can enjoy them.
This afternoon I decided to go out and start digging out the herbs in a bed in the garden. The wooden edges are on their last legs, not helped by the amount of roots under them. The whole bed is full of roots, and getting one of the herbs out was a challenge, I managed not to bend the new fork though, it was a space job in the end.

The two tubs behind the bed were empty when I started.
There is a lot more turning over the soil as it is still full of roots, but more manageable!
I helped Tina staple some booklets for tomorrow’s service and then we went off to shop t Lidl, a very twisty and narrow journey away. We had a quick dinner when we got home.
Feeling quite weary tonight.

  1. Sounds like a good morning. A takeaway chai latte while sitting sketching. That’s the lifestyle a retiree should have, not so sure about all the digging though! The sketch is lovely. You know I love the pen sketches anyway. Loads of detail in there. Are the benches in the picture you took the ones where you sat and sketched the bridge yesterday?
That was nice of Anya to send the flowers. I’ve just realised it’s Mothers Day tomorrow 😊 They look good considering they came through the post.
The digging looks like hard work! I thought you’d left all that behind in Hornsea. I suppose on the bright side the garden is a lot smaller so should be easier to get on top of it. If it doesn’t kill you first that is 😳😊
Maybe all the digging will help you sleep better tonight. Special day tomorrow, so no hard work! 🙂

  2. I was pleased with the sketch. No not the bench I was sat on by the river, St. Ninians garden is in the town.
Yes, Mothering Sunday tomorrow, I have said I will go to the service in the morning. Hopefully Tina will feel well enough to take e put in the afternoon.
I had a real battle to get one of those plants out, getting it root free will be a challenge but not hard digging!
