Driffield and a walk

This morning the three of us had a drive out to Driffield. Darren had an appointment for his flu jab and we went along for the ride. Tina and I went into Rafters, the veg shop my deliveries come from, while Darren was in Boots. Got some nice veggies and I got some russet apples, need to buy them when you can as they are only available for a short season. Now we will have a starter for ten! Do you know what these are?

We had never seen them before, they are actually dates! I had never given a thought to what data looked like before they were in the boxes at Christmas!
After our wander in the shops we drove to the garden centre and had some lunch. Then we browsed in the garden centre. The only thing we bought was four bags of duck food, two that would float and two that would sink. I did take a couple of photos in the garden centre, a horse made of horse shoes and a ridiculously cute planter!

Then we fed the ducks before coming home. I thinkDarren took some photos but I haven’t got them yet but one of the view and a couple of the swan.

We watched a Bargain Hunt back indoors and then I went for a walk with Tina. We went along the trail after having a drink at the recently opened coffee shop. Then we got to the sea front.
I had been goIng into the garden again, but that was enough exercise for the day.
The painter is allegedly arriving tomorrow.🤞

Hearing aid check

I nipped to the bank when they opened this morning as I was catching the bus to Beverley just after 9.30am.I had n appointment to have the hearing aids checked as it has been a year since I got them. I actually had another hearing test and there was just a slight deterioration so she tweaked the settings. I will have a yearly hearing test to make any adjustments. I had a bit of lunch out and a wander round the town. I spotted this jumper that I really liked so looked inside. I would want several jumpers for the price so that one will be. ‘Would have been nice’ moment.

I went out into the garden this afternoon and spent a couple of hours working on a bed next to the walled garden.I should have take the before picture as it was so bad yu couldn’t actually make out that it was a bed. I only managed one side and filled the garden bin,  good job it gets emptied tomorrow.

I had dug up a few primulas and a hyacinth. I potted the primulas and will plant the hyacinth in a pot indoors.

Have been sitting with my little friend again, she has become a real lap cat!

Going into Driffield with Darren and Tina tomorrow as they are both at home. Then Darren is off to work on Wednesday, Tina is off to spend time with the nuns, and I will be seeing the painter get started n the windows.

Gemstone jewellery workshop

Today has had me at Sher’s shop, Number Nine, for a good part of the day. It was the second anniversary of the shop opening so they had a bit of a do. A couple of pics, me with Dave, Sher’s husband and one with my glass of Nozeco!

At home I pottered indoors as we had a fair bit of rain this morning. I was leaving to go back to Number Nine for the workshop and said a quick hello to Tina when we met on the drive! The workshop was interesting, quite a lot of info about gemstones for the first half hour then we made bracelets and even had time for earrings too. Sher took this pic of our bracelets.

My bracelet and earrings.

Had a good catch up with Darren and Tina when I got home, they had a great break with good weather. Bought me this very lovely little paper cut picture.

Sitting with the cat for a change now

Christmas already?

I went to see Bel this morning, apart from being achey she seemed fine.

When I came home I got ready to catch the bus to Sigglesthorne to the garden centre as it was their Christmas display launch day. They were offering 15% discount to loyalty card holders on all Christmas merchandise. I didn’t buy anything from the display but took some photos, one of an autumn display first.

I had lunch there and just bought three plants. I had trouble having to cross the busy road twice on the way to the bus stop.
A pic of the three plants, I did get the them in the ground along with four others.
Will close now as Strictly is about to start!

Not much to report

I knew I had a package arriving today and it arrived quite early so I decided to catch the bits up to Freeport. I had sorted out some items I had painted that I was going to offer to The Potteries as display pieces. Rob was on duty today and was happy to have the pieces. I got my drink and piece of cake free as a thank you. We had a natter as I haven’t been up there for a few weeks. Then I walked home via Polly’s Path.

I called in at Tesco on the way home as Jean was coming to me this week and I needed to buy some Free From cake as she is allergic to gluten and milk. We had a good chat, her house is up for sale as it is very big and too much now for her and Terry as they are both in their eighties.
I pottered around for a bit and did water the bonsai trees. After tea Rosie came in for a chat and collected some church mail.
I got a new stand for one of my plates and now have three plates on the shelf in front of my lounge window.
Bit of tv with the cat now!

Trip to Beverley

I didn’t have to catch the bus too early so pottered this morning and got a load of washing done. When I got to Beverley I called in t Vons, the hearing aid clinic to make a check up appointment as I have had then for almost a year now. I had a good wander round the town as I had plenty of time before going to an afternoon short concert.I went and had some lunch and then went to the Toll Gavel United Church where the concert was taking place. The concert was called ‘Cello: Through silence to sound.’ There was a lady who hd written a book researching a few remarkable cellists. She sat with a cellist by her side and told stories which were entwined with relevant cello music. I had quite a good view of them. I took a picture before it begun.

A very enjoyable hour. A picture of the church when I was leaving.
I had quite a while so went to a cafe for a cuppa and then a leisurely walk to the bus station. People were enjoying late summer drinks in the market square.
St Mary’s is always good for a photo.

I had trouble staying awake on the bus on both journeys! As it is usually take away night I got off the bus and went straight to the take away place and got my usual piece of chicken and chips! A bargain at £3.20.
Haven’t done a lot this evening, I have had a neglected cat on my lap!

Mostly indoors day

I have been out n a few short errands today, but mostly have been trying to tidy my rooms. A constant battle as I have too much stuff and not enough places to put it, plus the fact that tidiness doesn’t come easily to me! I was out early to post a letter then started moving my plethora of ornaments to polish the shelves! I sorted some things out that could go to the charity shop, and as I had a half filled box already I filled it and took it across to the charity shop.

I went into the garden to refresh the bird baths and took this photo of the Victorian bath planter, which you can’t actually make out as the plants in it a glorious.

I went along to see Sher at Botany, she had a terrible time on holiday. They had their car in the garage so that it was fit for travel before they set off to France. The day after they reached their destination it broke down completely news towed away! They had a hire car but didn’t even know where their car hd been taken. They had to stay in France longer until it was all sorted. She needs another holiday to recover now! She bought me back some lovely earrings as an extra thank you for covering the shop.
These two begonia leaves had rooted in water so I have potted them and will see how they go.

I am going into Beverley tomorrow which will make a change and I am going to a short concert which will be good I am sure.

Jigsaw and garden

Wasn’t feeling too energetic first thing so put a few bits in the jigsaw before going out I the garden.

I had several short spells in the garden with rests in between. I started strimming at the back of the garden until the batteries ran out. I started hoeing but then decided to cut the rhubarb and tidy that bed. A large pile of leaves.

I cut all the levels off and loaded the rhubarb in the trug.
Indoors I made up seven bundles and a bit later I took the round to the parish hall. The Families at Three group meet on Tuesday afternoons and there are usually plenty of takes for it.
After lunch I finished the jigsaw. I had noticed a cross on the box this morning and found it was indicating where the missing piece should be!
I went out and did some more hoeing, tidied up the sunflower bed and planted most of the plants that I had waiting in that bed.

Not doing much this evening, gardening makes me ache now, must be feeling my age!

Change of plans

I had messaged someone at the diocese yesterday to see if there was any idea when and if the painters would arrive today. I didn’t have a reply so was up and dressed by eight and did a bit to the jigsaw for a while. I will have this one finished this week as it is as easy as the other one was difficult! I waited until ten and then phoned the guy from the diocese, he said he had messaged the contractor when he got my message yesterday but had had no reply. He said he would phone him and get back to me. When he called back he said that they were delayed because of the weather and would come next week. He was not happy as the date had been set weeks ago and the windows really need to be painted before the wether turns. He said he told them that why need to start this week and had given the painter my details to arrange a date. He did phone, said he was behind with his jobs so will probably not start until next week, then he asked if he could call round this evening to look at the windows. That arranged I decided to take myself out for a bit.

I went to the banking hub and a lady that I have spoken to a few times was in the queue before me. She was feeling down as a lady who she thought of as a younger sister had died and she was helping with the funeral arrangements. I asked if she would like to go for a coffee and she jumped at the idea. She is a local author and funnily enough I am reading one of her books at the moment.

We had a coffee in a chat in a cafe that neither of us had been in before.  She seemed much more cheerful when we parted company. I then walked down to the front and back via the trail.

I went to see Sarah and David this afternoon so more chatting!
The painter did come to the house this evening and said the job will take him a couple of weeks and he will start next Monday or Tuesday! He will contact me to let me know when to expect him, I won’t be holding my breath. I send an update to the diocese and have a different week to the one I expected now.

Feeling achey so taking it easy

I don’t know if it was sitting around yesterday or sleeping in the rocking chair last night, but I have been achey today but not the legs, just everywhere else! I pottered a bit , got some washing done and cleared the jigsaw away, then chatted to Anya. I decided to have a walk to the front and had pensioners fish and chips and a cuppa.

I had a slow walk home and then sorted out a 500 piece jigsaw I hadn’t done and started finding the edge pieces. I went into the gardens for a while putting half a dozen  plants in the front and the back garden. I also dug up three tiny hollyhock plants that had appeared in the front garden and potted them. I am hoping they are from seeds of the black hollyhock that died. I just took one picture out there.

I made a start on the jigsaw, this one will be fairly easy.
Will finish with some pics from the Tina, the had a walk around the Berwick walls today.
