Lovely veggie box and successful sewing!

This morning I did the exercises frost thing so that they were done and out of the way! I do think they are having some effect but I still have to brace myself to get started! Tina and I both went out into the garden, Tina burnt the pile of sticks we had been collecting and I worked on the higher part of the banked bed, didn’t bother to take pics. Soon after we came indoors my veggie box, well, mixed box really, arrived. It is pretty impressive, vegetables, salad and lots of fruit. I am very pleased with it..

We waited in for a delivery that Tina was expecting and then we headed odd out to Beverley to see if we could find somewhere to have some lunch. The antique centre cafe was open and they had a table for us in their rather lovely little enclosed garden. We had a picnic box for two which was a bit like their version of an afternoon tea. It was lovely and very good value. They even had a basket with blankets in that you could use and we did!

We had a walk in Beverley as Tina had the car charging at the car park. Someone had yarn bombed a post box!

This evening I set up the sewing machine and attached the extension table, ready to try out the first design from my lovely book.

Tina came up when I was sewing, commented on the machine being loud, although is seems fairly quiet when you are using it.

I really enjoyed using it this evening and am pleased with the result, looking forward to designing something else now.

Busy in the garden!

Morning, afternoon and evening in the garden today. I nipped out to post a letter earlier and again to the chemist this afternoon. I had hoped the new pain killers would be in but not yet, they have my phone number now so will text me when they are ready.

This morning I started on the bed with the acre in, it was well overgrown and the grass was edging in! Quite a few toadstools around as well!

Removed another fairly large root, I Don think I will ever stop finding them!

I got that bed tidied and before lunch decided to do a bit of clearing near the apple tree where I feed the birds. The aquilegia were being crowded out by nettles and ground elder and there we a lot of the horrid tap root weeds.

I got that area tidied before going indoors for a break.

After lunchI worked right round the main bed weeding and remarking the edges. It took quite a while as I wanted to get right round. The idea being to have it ready for some of the plants that I have had waiting for a only time, I did take an after!

After tea I went out again for a while and got about a dozen plants into the ground, so all in all a productive day, let’s home the legs and hands don’t make me regret it!

Another full day

I forgot that I was due a phone call from the doctor early this morning, but luckily realised the phone was ringing and had a chat. He is sending a prescription for painkillers to take at night to help with the carpal tunnel pain and I have an appointment to actually see him next Wednesday. Hopefully the pills will be ready to collect tomorrow. I spent all the morning delivering some of Tina’s monthly letters to her parishioners, not a lot of letters but obscure names and no numbers and obscure roads too, need to get a map of Hornsea before I help out again! I ended up at the sea front before delivering the last few so had a drink and took pics of the sea!

I had another sit down in the memorial gardens, David and Sarah were walking through and stopped for a chat. I took a photo of this pretty little flower, small and simple.

I moved my deliveries of bird food down to the greenhouse. This acre in the garden looks even more lovely in sunlight.

I went into the front garden to finish digging the fairy garden, and then got it assembled again., hopefully it will stay weed free for a few weeks!

The tubs in the front garden are looking lovely, they all have red tulips in but this one has a lovely red and white tulip.

Feeling pretty weary so won’t be doing a lot tonight.

Quite a full day

Yesterday evening the sky was pretty, I was a bit late noticing it but it was still lovely by the time I got outside,

This morning I did get the exercises done so six sessions done, I think it is getting a bit easier, but I still dread them! Tina was going down to the leisure centre to get the car on charge so I went with her and we walked back through the town. We went in to Andy’s shop where we had bought quite a lot of stuff to see how he is as he had been in hospital last week. Tina had seen a large dragon that she wanted for her nephew and this handsome couple came home with us, thanks Tina!

Before lunch I went out into the front garde to work on the fairy garden, I was expecting deliveries of bird food so being in the front made sense so that I would see the van arrive. I lifted all the pavers off and stored them under the bench so that I could dig the bed.

I didn’t quite finish a the sun was really hot and it was lunch time.

Tina and I were entertained when watching the lunchtime news, the reporters were outside parliament and at first there was a full with a smallish placard saying that Brexit was a waste of time, then he had a mate join him and they were holding up a banner and dodging about to keep in shot. It was hilarious and we have no ide what the reporters were talking about!!

After lunchI went out and managed to transfer some of the veggie plants into the raised beds, had almost finished when Lesley arrived. 

Lesley and I spent about an hour working in the garden, Lesley was clearing some of the sticky weed as she knows it brings me out in a rash. I did some hoeing and clearing on the bed near the summer house. Then we had a cup of tea sat in the summer house, there was some rain when we were sat there so we timed the weeding well! I took a couple of photos of plants, the blue flowers look stunning about the forget me nots. The other one is of a plant that pops up everywhere and we usually remove, but we thought we would let some flower and see what they were like.

It was quite late when I came upstairs and I am tired but really wanted to try the free motion feature on the machine, so, here is my first attempt on this machine, not perfect but pleased with my first attempt.

The Juki has landed!

A bit of a waiting game for half of the day but I got to the shop fairly early and then went into the garden, started some tidying u on the main bed in the front garden, and pulled a few weeds for the path. That bed is getting quite established and not too weedy although a good few dandelions and small weed seedlings, I know Idid quite a bit of clearing but not easy to see when it is full of so many flowers, I spent about forty minutes and then  some rain arrived.

After lunch I spent some time on the fairly garden, that way I was near the front door should the elusive sewing machine arrived. I filled a couple of garden carts of unwanted plants, mainly poppies. But they had to go as you couldn’t actually see it was a fairly garden anymore, I removed all the tiny pavers and will probably end up moving the houses and their pavers so that I can dig out some of the weed and seedlings. Going to replace the wooden edging as well with wine different bed edging. This is really a work in progress project!

I was catching my breath whe I saw the UPS van pull up so went downstairs to take my delivery in! The man carried it down on his shoulder but it was pretty heavy so I got it to the base of the stairs!

Tina carried it upstairs for me so that I didn’t have to wait for Darren to get home. Firstly getting the outer wrapping off and then a struggle to actually get it out of the box!

A lot of accessories and if this is a mini I hate to think how heavy a maxi one is! A closer view.....

I read the instruction book from cover to cover, the threading is very different it what I have been used and a little more complex. I thought ai would leave the next step until tomorrow. But after tea I decided to start with winding the bobbin, again a bit different and it fits in on the side rather that the usual top loading. That done successfully I decided to have a go at threading the machine, that was okay except I could not fathom the needle threader so  just threaded the needle by eye. So on row of stitching done and I know that it works!

I didn’t do the exercises today as I really didn’t feel up to it, so need to get them done tomorrow! Also supposed to be going to see Lesley in her garden tomorrow so maybe not too much experimenting.

Rain stopped play again!

It was overcast when I fed the birds and was beginning to spit when I came in. We decided that the field would probably be muddy and not many stalls anyway so we would give the boot sale a miss this week. But Darren suggested we go and have a sausage sandwich at Lily’s Beach Cafe on the front instead. We phoned to make sure she was open and then set off. It had brightened up but there have been stormy clouds on and off all day, quite a bit warmer though and no frost this morning. As I went over to take some photos of the sea I noticed an oil rainbow on the road, so common when I was a child get rarely see one now!

When I was Face Timing with Anya Pandora was on my lap and Anya took a couple of screen shots, will post them both although very similar, she was such a happy purry cat!

Tina bought a brilliant cartridge paper book on Etsy to see if her wardens would like to use them for wedding registration in church. I said one would be lovely for me to use as a design book for things I may do with the new sewing machine! Today she kindly gave me the sample one and will order a couple more. Even found a matching pen, well sort of, one that Mike made for me some time ago.

While I was having a break when getting the dinner I even made a start!

We watched the Grand Prix this afternoon and it was pretty good.

When I was putting the fox food out I took a photo of these tulips. They have been open for ages and have weather everything that has been thrown at them and I think they still look stunning.

Hopefully photos of the new beast tomorrow, but suppose I will have to make time for the dreaded exercises as well!

Change of plans!

I had planned to get on in the garden today as I have a lot of plants that really need to be in the ground, but it started to rain when I went to the shops early and has stayed that way most of the day. So I got the material put that I bought in Bridlington and started to get ready to layer the quilt in readiness for the machine arriving on Monday, fingers crossed! I trimmed the edges off the quilt top to make it into a rectangle. The pieces seemed bright and I thought it I would try to fix them together as a practice piece.

It was a bit tricky because of the angles, but I have got it ready to make into a quilt sandwich to practice on.

I got the material for the backing sewn together and the wadding cut to size, I may assemble them tomorrow,

A couple of weeks ago I got another bargain at the boot sale, a small slow cooker in great condition for a pound! I used it to make vegetable soup today and it worked really well.

I am not sure what the weather forecast is so we haven’t decided whether we are going to the boot sale in the morning,
